What’s in your closet? For me, much of my closet is filled with casual clothes and athleisure wear. While reflecting back on last year’s styles and looking back at my closet cleanout, I realized there are a few forgotten trends I hope to incorporate more into my style in the new year.

I see it every once in a while, but wide-leg pants and gauchos are some of my favorite bottoms. The versatility of wide-leg pants is amazing and it’s so easy to pair them with different tops or shoes. I love them a lot because they fit the length of my legs and for the most part, I don’t have to worry about my pants looking too short. If you’ve never heard of gauchos, you’ve probably seen them before. They are like wide-leg pants, except they end at the mid calf. I realized only this year as I was cleaning out my closet back home how many pairs I had. Gauchos can look very fashionable as a business casual fit or just an everyday outing fit. If you’re looking for a different style of pants, try one of these and I promise you won’t regret the look.

Anyone remember that phase with the Juicy Couture tracksuits? This brand debuted in the early 2000s and is quite nostalgic for me, considering that it was popular back in elementary/middle school. I remember wanting one of these suits so bad because it looked comfy and there was nothing better than having a matching blue tracksuit back then. Even if you can’t secure a Juicy Couture, any velour track suit will provide you the comfort and style of this luxury. The best thing is you can pick out whatever color you want and wear it as you like.

I’m not even sure if I can consider this a real fashion trend, but I spent most of my senior year of high school repping this, so I’ll leave it here. I will always be an advocate of the classic and overly comfy, oversized t-shirt with leggings and Nike socks style. This can be paired with a nice pair of athletic shoes or some slides. Don’t get me wrong, I like dressing up, but some days it’s comfort over everything. You can even style it with some jewelry or a cute shirt for an elevated lazy look.

I’m not sure what’s in your closet, but consider trying a new trend or bringing back something from the past this year. I plan to incorporate these trends into my style in 2021, but I also want to start dressing up more, even if I’m just staying in my house. I hope during your next closet cleanout, you’ll find some of these items or even mix up what you have to create your own trends.

I am a third year student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City medical program. When I am not starting a new TV show, I enjoy looking at new recipes, taking pictures, and laughing with other people.
