I’m going to campus for the first time as a sophomore this upcoming fall, and if I’m being honest, I’ve been doing the most research on which plants I can bring and successfully keep alive in my dorm! Here are some of my favorites.
1. Snake Plants
These plants are almost indestructible, incredibly hearty, and perfect for dorm life since they do best with indirect light. There’s no need to stress over not having a perfectly sunlit room to keep this plant happy! Snake plants are also incredible at absorbing toxins in the air like formaldehyde and benzene, which makes them even more beneficial to have in your room.
2. Philodendron
The philodendron is incredibly easy to care for since its leaves are the communicators for their health. When the leaves get yellow, they’re getting too much light. If there is poor growth, the plant isn’t getting enough light. Overall, the plant does well with indirect light and being watered as soon as the soil gets dry.
3. Aloe
Aloe plants love sunlight, so if you’re blessed with a sunlit dorm, this plant is for you. Aloe only requires water once per week (or less) and has tons of homeopathic properties that include treating a sunburn!
