COLLEGE STATION, Apr. 28, 2023 – The Marcel the Shell with Shoes on screening and moderated discussion with Jenny Slate at Rudder Theater.
On Apr. 20, Jenny Slate joined Aggie cinema history with a hilariously heartwarming screening of Marcel the Shell with Shoes on at Rudder Theater followed by a moderated discussion with Slate and Patrick Sullivan, program director with Texas A&M School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts. Marcel is a mockumentary-style film produced by powerhouse studio A24 as well as co-written by Slate and her ex-husband, David Fleischer Camp. The film explores themes of love and loss; it hits home in its comical and tender handling of grief and hope. The cinematography elicits a gentle response and just being in the presence of the characters felt like a warm blanket.
Jenny Slate, co-producer and voice of Marcel, told the audience, “find something that keeps your spark going” during her discussion with Sullivan following the screening. Slate and Sullivan talked about her comedy, writing, and experiences in the industry, speaking to every Aggie artist in the audience. MSC Aggie Cinema member Connor Martin explained that “this is a rare opportunity for those interested in film, social media work, or any type of digital communications,” continuing to say, “this is an in-person discussion with a professional within the entertainment industry who can provide valuable advice for those pursuing a career in arts and entertainment.”
