College dorm rooms are small. Especially for freshmen like myself, the half of a room with all of my things can feel cramped and busy. My twin-xl is definitely my favorite part of my side of my dorm room, although making this dorm room bed has felt pointless at times. Is it worth making my bed right now if I’m planning on taking a nap in it in an hour? Should I just leave it? I’m here to tell you that you will not regret making your bed. Here are my favorite reasons why.

1. Accomplishing the First (or 500th) Task of the Day

The small sense of accomplishment that you’ll feel when making your bed is amazing. Especially to jump start your day, you’ve already done one thing right. Even if it is the middle of the day, it’s not too late! Making your bed at any point in the day can be worthwhile.

2. Improve Your Sleep

The National Sleep Foundation found a 19% difference in consistently getting a good night’s sleep between those who rarely or never make their bed, and those who make their bed every morning.

3. Cleaner Room

There are so many benefits to keeping a clean room! Especially in dorm rooms, the bed takes up most of the space. If your bed is made, your room will look cleaner, and it may even inspire you to keep the rest of your room clean.

4. Boosted Mood

Making your bed can only make your mood better. The sense of accomplishment, improved sleep, and cleanliness all add to an overall better room.

5. Dorm Feels More Like Home

My personal favorite reason you should make your bed in college, most importantly, is to make your space feel more like home. Even if you’re not someone who would’ve made their bed back home, taking pride in your space can make it feel like home.
