Apps to keep you from touching your phone while studying

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

Midterms are coming near, and you really want to get good grades. Unfortunately, those notifications from Snapchat, Instagram or the game you are addicted to distract you from studying, and for god’s sake – you cannot focus on a-single-thing. If this sounds familiar to you, let’s look at a few apps that can help you improve the situation!

FOREST: Focus for productivity

The idea is simple: you set the app’s timer and a tree grows at the same time. If you get through it without leaving the app halfway, you get to plant a tree! The longer you stay focused, the more beautiful trees you have. At the end of the day, your little garden will become a lust forest. Moreover, Forest also partners with real-tree-planting organizations, which means that you can plant real trees and help change the world.

But be careful! Once you leave the app when the timer has not finished yet, your tree will die. Since no one fancies the idea of having a dead tree in their garden, try not to touch your phone.

Flip – Focus timer for study

This app is definitely my favorite one of this list! You can measure your time studying or working just by flipping your phone. Easy to follow and effective to keep track of how much time you dedicate to each task. But once you open your phone – or “flip it up”, a warning message will appear and you have only 15 seconds to flip it down and not break the focus.

Besides the focus timer, Flip provides a variety of great features. You can set the D-Day for your upcoming test, or register your timetable or study routine. Also, Flip shows you a detailed report of your daily, weekly and monthly study time. And you will not study alone for you can talk with friends all over the world, share your studying moments and event study together in a live session.

(Bonus: The app’s themes are super cute!!!)

Study Bunny: Focus timer

If you are a person who cannot stay focused for too long and need to pause several times, then Study Bunny may be a good choice. You will meet your friend bunny, and you can earn coins to buy items for your friend by studying. Just like other focus apps, you will need to set a timer. But don’t worry, you can pause whenever you lose your focus. Your friend bunny will not judge you; instead, they even give you some motivational quotes!

Another cute thing about this app is that it helps you create a to-do list and make some flashcards, which are useful if you want to keep track of your habits or make your study more effective.

bakery

If you only need a simple app with simple features, then maybe you will want to try Bakery. You pick a pastry that you want to bake, then set the timer and study. You will earn coins for successful bakes and can unlock new recipes.

Just make sure that you will not exit Bakery for too long or your cake will be burned! You only have 10 seconds to save your little cutie pastry.

I have just introduced you to some of the best apps to save you from burning out while cramming for your midterms. All of the apps are available on IOS and Android, so remember to check them out and NAIL YOUR TESTS!
