Galentine’s Day 101

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Ah, February.  The season of love and everything pink.  Now, I know for those of us who haven’t been swept away in relationship romance, February 14th has zero curb appeal. But, let’s not forget about the celebration of platonic romance!  (also known as Galentine’s Day).  A day solely dedicated to showing your friends how much you love and appreciate them. Let’s get into some creative celebrations to make the most out of February 13th, because February 14th is overrated.

Gift Giving

As one of the premiere love languages, giving gifts, no matter how big or small is a perfect way to show your love and adoration for your friends.  Whether it be homemade, a little trinket that reminds you of them, or something they’ve had their eye on for a while, this is a great, dedicated, and thoughtful way to show your affection for the people you care about.  Target is always a safe bet for gift supplies and favorite snacks, and Etsy is one the best places to get personalized gifts and trinkets that can’t be found anywhere else!

Create Your Perfect Picnic

Okay, we’ve all seen the TikTok picnic trend where you buy an entire cake and cut it with champagne glasses, and I think I speak for everyone when I say it looks amazing. Galentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to try it!  Pull together a classic picnic basket with your favorite snacks–you can elevate it even more with a charcuterie board–buy the most aesthetically pleasing cake you can find, and recreate this cottage core tradition.  It’s sure to be a fun, delicious time! (don’t forget to take pictures to commemorate the occasion… and the outfits)

Themed Boards

Let’s say you stay in for Galentine’s Day and host a party. One of the best ways to celebrate and for everyone to contribute is to bring themed boards. This is a fantastic opportunity to let your creativity run wild — the theme can be anything from inside jokes to rom-com chic (or disastrous dating stories).  The goal is simply fun and laughter. Whether it be an array of drinks, desserts, or snack boards, this yummy idea will give you a great variety to choose from and guarantee a good time!

Bake Sweet Treats

Arguably one of the best parts of Valentine’s Day is the themed desserts. Chocolate-covered strawberries, pink and red decorated cookies, and somehow everything is shaped like a heart?  Sign me up ASAP.  Get together with some friends, cue your favorite chick flick, and have a blast recreating some delicious, drool-worthy recipes.

Whether you are single or with that special someone, love is in the air and deserves to be expressed. If you surround yourself with the right people, anything can be a joyful celebration.  Show your friends how much you love them this February 13th, and remember to keep those standards high, ladies!
