I’m curious as to whether any of the cats you’ve hugged in the past have any sincere desire to do so. Studies show that 2 out of 3 cats, at some stage, have been a victim of non-consensual cuddling.

Cats, like humans, tend to have their personal space. They have their own set of boundaries which most people fail to realize and respect which then ends up in an “OMG cats are so mean” statement.

People usually have this certain hatred towards these fluffy, little, cute balls of fur where they have just formed an opinion based on their bad experiences with cats. What people fail to realize is that cats can be as fun as dogs if only they would make an effort in trying to understand the animal rather than treat it the same way they treat dogs. Just as an android charging cable won’t be able to charge an iOS device, the same way, violating a cat’s boundaries won’t give you its attention either. You usually end up with scratches and then come up with an opinion that is just about how cats can be vile and dangerous and dogs are much rather benevolent and harmless.

Cats can be fun too once you understand them. Unlike dogs, cats take more time to form trust, and the best way to gain its trust is by just letting it be. Cats are pretty much nonchalant and like to keep things cute. The next time you see a cat, allow the cat to approach you on its own rather than approaching yourself and trying to pet it. Only touch it when it wants to be touched. Let’s say, you go up to the animal and it’s showing hostile behavior, backing off is the best thing to do. People must learn that animals, just like humans, have their boundaries and personal spaces too. Furthermore, one should be respectful of their boundaries as well and try not to invade their spaces and upset the animal. People need to stop fighting over which animal is better – cats or dogs. Both cats and dogs are amazing in their ways. It’s so saddening to witness people preferring to have dogs as pets over cats. This stereotype has led to many cats being homeless since not many people are leaning toward adopting cats.

We should begin this year by having a positive attitude towards every animal because their differences are what make them amazing and unique. I agree that cats can be complicated creatures but once you figure them out, they contribute to being the best sleep companions.

It’s 2023, and I believe it’s time we all stopped hating these little furballs. Cats are intelligent creatures by nature, and they require little maintenance. Because of the people’s misconceptions surrounding these fluffballs, many cats are still confined to adoption centers and non-profit organizations. As we enter this new year, let’s give these goofy little creatures new homes and make their 2023 happy.

Hi, I am a psychology student but clearly need therapy myself. I like to write & I love cats.
