For decades now, music has been an iconic form of art through which humans have been able to express themselves. Sometimes mere sentences are not enough to express how intensely an individual feels about something or someone. In some way, music tends to depict a person’s vibe. There are tons of genres for people to listen to according to their preferences. Some people are busy jamming to Bollywood Music on a Friday night at a club with their friends while some are vibing to their favorite artist on Spotify with their earphones plugged in. To be honest, if there was no music, I honestly have no idea how I would have survived. At this point, it’s a necessity.

Now, what if I told you that you could combine traditional pop music with EDM? The world of hyperpop is where you experience intense beats of rhythm with an extreme emphasis on cuteness and intoxication with a feminine touch. This genre is mainly queer-centric where the majority of artists are anything but cis-gendered heterosexual individuals. Hyperpop is one genre which, according to my experience of introducing such songs to people around me, isn’t preferred by most but only those who get it, get it. (yes, it’s a flex)

Here is a listing of some top songs that I would recommend to you, especially while you’re on something.

  • That Kid’s (real name: Spencer) boost mobile and Full Throttle are the two songs that are totally worth listening to. His latest album release “Superstar” is a whole vibe too, especially the remixes which never fail to lift my mood. If you went through the lyrics of his songs, you would know what I was talking about. His entire song persona is basically of a teen gay boy who loves to wreck things up and somehow manages to thrive in it without a problem.
  •  Amygdala by Ecco2k & Bladee is one song I know I would never get over. The song is basically about the hypodermic shot of pure euphoria wherein an individual gets so happy that they feel like they are living in a dream. This one’s worth listening to because it gives a vibe of a surging foggy rave with the power of youth and expensive clothes.
  • Barbie Boy by Dorian Electra is a whole banger. This is the one song where the artist has given his version of the popular song track “Barbie Girl” which is basically just another heteronormative song. This one’s something new and something more relatable to the queer population with better beats to it.
  • If there’s any song I have related to the most, it’s I’m Perfect by Chase Icon. As the name suggests, this song reminds me of how there’s no such thing as perfection, but I am the exception. It is overall a confidence booster for me. Walking through my hostel campus with this song playing in my earphones is an entire moment. Chase Icon is a transgender woman whose persona is effortlessly being better than everyone else, and we love that.
  • Finally, Mos Thoser by Gupi, Foodhouse & Fraxiom was the song that I listened to the most during my second semester of college when I had just begun to express myself completely. This song basically gives an idea about a group of rebellious queers who go out of their way to be iconic and just not care about the world. Now that sounds like some fun!

To talk about hyperpop’s aesthetics, I’d say it consists of vibrant glittery colors, holographic illustrations, bubblegum & cotton candy environment. Hyperpop used to be the internet’s most hated genre when it had just begun since it was just characterized as “loud noise” or “not real music” but in recent years, this genre has seen a rise in its number of listeners.  Songs such as “Sugarcrash” by Elyotto gained massive popularity on social media apps like TikTok in 2021. One of the fascinating things about this genre is that it lets artists shape their songs into anything they want and can think about. Hyperpop has its own separate set of sub–genres such as glitchcore, which I would have to describe as just hyperpop but on steroids. Artists like Ecco2k, Bladee, SoFaygo, etc. make songs under this genre.

In order to understand this genre completely, I would recommend you give it a listen. It’s a whole different level of vibe.
