I got my ass up every single day, no matter how tired I was, put on my cute little costumes, and rallied.

It’s almost been a full month since a college student’s favorite time of the year: Halloweekend. One full month, yet my costumes are still sprawled out across my bedroom floor, my laundry is undone, and the reminisce of fake blood is still splattered in random spots along my wall. Halloweekend, as fun as it was at the moment, completely derailed my semester.

Going out five days in a single week is already a lot for me. I can hardly make it out the standard Thursday to Saturday, so you can imagine how hard it was to do Thursday-Monday. It’s Halloween though!

Whenever I don’t feel like going out the same words replay in my head: “You’ll never be this young again.” But I got my ass up every single day, no matter how tired I was, put on my cute little costumes, and rallied.

Here’s how my weekend went:

Thursday: My best friend goes to school in Baltimore, and I knew I had to visit her after she invited me to go with her to a local bar that’s known for huge holiday events. My friends and I got on the train back to my hometown to begin the journey to Loyola.

We got there around 4ish and were ready to eat and take a long nap before the night’s adventures. Get this, these people began to pregame at 7! 7 o’clock pm! We’re used to pregaming at 10 at the earliest, so this was truly a shock. Hannah, I love you, but you guys are crazy.

Regardless, I slipped into my Perry the Platypus costume and was ready to go to the bar, you know how the night goes. The most memorable part of the night was sitting on the ground at 7/11 because we lost Hannah and couldn’t get back into her dorm without her.

Friday: We got up bright and early because we had to make it back to Philly in time for Night Two, and I took a nice long nap before getting ready again. Friday night I dressed up as Raven from Teen Titans, this costume was a hit and I promise it’s not just my ego talking.

We went out into the city that night to go bar hopping before coming back for a friend’s Halloween party. Unfortunately, by the time we got back, the party had already been shut down, but we were there in spirit.

If I haven’t already emphasized how dramatic I am, just know that I woke up realizing that I removed myself from a group chat and with a broken phone. That’s all you guys have to know.

Saturday: My alarm went off at 9 a.m. and I got up to go to a farmer’s market with some colleagues to promote the brokerage. It was a long day, considering I had gotten no sleep and had to help kids paint pumpkins for a couple of hours, but I honestly had a lot of fun.

The lack of sleep didn’t hit me until I got back and realized I could only take an hour nap before rallying again. But I was particularly excited for Saturday night because one of my friends from home, Kristina, was coming up for the night.

When she arrived I got into my joker costume and went to pregame, we stayed on campus to party hop and had so much fun.

Sunday: I got up at 10 a.m. to go to work. There’s not much to say except for the fact that I work at a bar and the Eagles played that afternoon. Yeah.

Monday: Halloween is finally here! I had little intention of going out but I also have really bad FOMO. I went to class like the excellent student I am, and then came back to get the most sleep I had probably gotten in a week. I had a full 4-hour nap and was fully refreshed when it came time to put on my sexy devil costume.

It was pouring but alas we decided to uber into the city regardless. It was a super fun night with lots of dancing and laughing, it was a perfect end to Halloweekend if I do say so myself.

Let me preface this by saying that I don’t regret a second of it. I will never be this young again, and I need to live it up while I can, however, I know my body and how it responds to not getting enough sleep.

Two days in and my eyes were twitching, back aching, and head pounding. One month later and I am just now cleaning my room and rebranding myself for the holiday season. Yes, Halloweekend took a significant toll on my life, but that toll was temporary.

The semester is almost over and I hope to fully get back on my feet in time for my 21st birthday trip. We’ll see how long it takes me to recover from that one!
