9. NIGHT RIDER
I knew I was gonna like NIGHT RIDER within the first 5 seconds, but I wished I liked it a little more after listening to it. I’m not the biggest fan of the “I’m too precious” part of the song, but overall I still really like the song. I especially like the first 10 seconds.
8. BLAHBLAHBLAH DEMO
While I may have ranked this song low, I still think it’s an incredible song! I just think that the other songs are so good that they somewhat outshine this one.
7. Feeling Like The End
I had similar feelings towards this song and BLAHBLAHBLAH DEMO, they’re both great, it’s just somewhat outshined by the other tracks on the album. If you like this song, you might also like his song CAN’T GET OVER YOU (feat. Clams Casino).
6. YUKON (INTERLUDE)
Honestly, YUKON (INTERLUDE) surprised me, I expected to rank it lower than I did, but the song really surprised me with how good it is. There’s something about the way the beat picks up in the song mixed with Joji’s vocals that is just so nice to listen to. I think this is definitely a song that you could listen to just to vibe and relax, and not get TOO in your feels like some of his other songs.
5. Glimpse of Us
Glimpse of Us was actually a single before this album came out, and became quite famous on tiktok, so this rating might surprise some. While I think this song is beautiful and emotionally damaging, having heard it so many times on tiktok it just doesn’t hit as hard as I want it to. Sometimes I can only think of the memes I’ve seen associated with this song and I just can’t feel it the same way I might have before it was on tiktok. The song is still incredible nonetheless.
4. Dissolve
This song got me in my feelings immediately! The lyrics are so deep and I feel like I could spend hours just listening to the song and decoding all its different meanings. Not only that, but the song is also just beautiful to listen to, but I gave it such a high rating because of the lyrics and the meaning behind it all.
3. Die For You
Die For You just hits different, there’s something about the song that is just mesmerizing. Warning, if you’ve just gotten out of a relationship this song might actually break your heart. The rawness of this song just brings a new meaning to heartbreak. Joji really said “I’d die for you” and we all felt it-
2. Before They Day Is Over
“I know you’re almost gone
Hold on, let me in before the day is over”
FELT! Honestly this song is just so beautiful to zone out and listen to, but when you really listen to the lyrics Joji tells a story of reconciliation with a past lover. The air of hopelessness and desperation that Joji conveys throughout the song just adds to how heartbreaking it is.
1. 1AM FREESTYLE
This song. When I first listened to this song, I believe I ascended. The entirety of the song is just gorgeous, and I don’t think I can properly convey in words how much I adore this song. I am a huge fan of Joji’s music, and I have been for many years, and 1 AM FREESTYLE has easily become one of my favorite songs of his. There’s nothing I can say or write to properly communicate how wonderful this song is, so you have to go listen to it yourself!
This is Joji’s 3rd LP, and definitely one of his best. I encourage everyone to check out not only this album, SMITHEREENS, but also all of Joji’s other music. He has some great songs including Will He, SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK, YEAH RIGHT, Run, Sanctuary, and so many more. Further, this list is only my personal opinion and everyone is entitled to have their own preferences. So if you think I’m right, great! If you absolutely disagree, that’s totally fine! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I still do hope that people check out this album and listen to his other albums!
