The midterm elections for Florida decided critical representatives for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, their Floridian counterparts and the governor of Florida. Other considerations were also on the ballot, such as Florida Supreme Court Justices and Amendments to Florida’s Constitution. 

The Governor race was between Republican Ron Desantis and Democrat Charlie Crist. Ron Desantis won with 59.4 percent of the votes. 

The U.S. Senate race was between Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Val Demings. Marco Rubio won with 57.7 percent of the votes. 

The U.S. House race decided the representatives for 28 districts. 

  • District 1 was between Republican Matthew Gaetz and Democrat Rebekah Jones. Matthew Gaetz won with 67.8 percent of the votes. 
  • District 2 was between Republican Neal Dunn and Democrat Al Lawson. Neal Dunn won with 59.8 percent of the votes. 
  • District 3 was between Republican Kat Cammack and Democrat Danielle Hawk. Kat Cammack won with 62.5 percent of the votes. 
  • District 4 was between Republican Aaron Bean and Democrat LaShonda Holloway.  Aaron Bean won with 60.5 percent of the votes. 
  • District 5 was won by Republican John Rutherford, who ran unopposed. 
  • District 6 was between Republican Michael Waltz and Libertarian Joe Hannoush. Michael Waltz won with 75.3 percent of the votes. 
  • District 7 was between Republican Cory Mills and Democrat Karen Green. Cory Mills won with 58.5 percent of the votes. 
  • District 8 was between Republican Bill Posey and Democrat Joanne Terry. Bill Posey won with 64.9 percent of the votes. 
  • District 9 was between Republican Scotty Moore and Democrat Darren Soto. Darren Soto won with 53.6 percent of the votes. 
  • District 10 was between Republican Calvin Wimbish and Democrat Maxwell Frost. Maxwell Frost won with 59 percent of the votes. 
  • District 11 was between Republican Daniel Webster and Democrat Shante Munns. Daniel Webster won with 63.1 percent of the votes. 
  • District 12 was between Republican Gus Bilirakis and Democrat Kimberly Walker. Gus Bilirakis won with 70.4 percent of the votes. 
  • District 13 was between Republican Anna Luna and Democrat Eric Lynn. Anna Luna won with 53.1 percent of the votes. 
  • District 14 was between Republican James Judge and Democrat Kathy Castor. Kathy Castor won with 56.9 percent of the votes. 
  • District 15 was between Republican Laurel Lee and Democrat Alan Cohn. Laurel Lee won with 58.5 percent of the votes. 
  • District 16 was between Republican Vern Buchanan and Democrat Jan Schneider. Vern Buchanan won with 62.2 percent of the votes. 
  • District 17 was between Republican Greg Steube and Democrat Andrea Kale. Greg Stuebe won with 63.8 percent of the votes. 
  • District 18 was between Republican Scott Franklin and Keith Hayden (no party affiliation). Scott Franklin won with 74.7 percent of the votes. 
  • District 19 was between Republican Bryon Donalds and Democrat Cindy Banyai. Bryon Donalds won with 68 percent of the votes. 
  • District 20 was between Republican Drew Clark and Democrat Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick won with 72.3 percent of the votes. 
  • District 21 was between Republican Brian Mast and Democrat Corinna Robinson. Brian Mast won with 63.5 percent of the votes. 
  • District 22 was between Republican Dan Franzese and Democrat Lois Frankel. Lois Frankel won with 55.1 percent of the votes. 
  • District 23 was between Republican Joe Budd and Democrat Jared Moskowitz. Jared Moskowitz won with 51.6 percent of the votes. 
  • District 24 was between Republican Jesus Navarro and Democrat Frederica Wilson. Frederica Wilson won with 71.8 percent of the votes. 
  • District 25 was between Republican Carla Spalding and Democrat Debbie Schultz. Debbie Schultz won with 55.1 percent of the votes. 
  • District 26 was between Republican Mario Diaz-Balart and Democrat Christine Olivio. Mario Diaz-Balart won with 70.9 percent of the votes. 
  • District 27 was between Republican Maria Salazar and Democrat Annette Taddeo. Maria Salazar won with 57.3 percent of the votes. 
  • District 28 was between Republican Carlos Gimenez and Democrat Robert Asencio. Carlos Gimenez won with 63.7 percent of the votes. 

In summary, out of the 28 districts, there are 20 Republicans and 8 Democrats.

The Florida Senate race decided the representatives for 40 districts and the Florida House race decided the representatives for 120 districts. For the Florida Senate, out of the 40 districts, 28 are Republicans and 12 are Democrats. For the Florida House, out of the 120 districts, 85 are Republicans and 35 are Democrats. 

With these election results, it is important to remember that each of us has a civic duty to use our power and vote. If you are disappointed in the results of this election but you did not vote, then I highly encourage you to make sure that you vote in the next election. While someone’s individual vote does not seem like it would make much of a difference, it does. Voting is a power given to us and it is a power we should use.
