Houseplants are a great addition to any home. They make any room feel brighter, and are known to improve moods. However, it can be a hassle to keep them alive. It’s hard to stay on a watering schedule, and plants can be very fussy and hard to manage. If you don’t have a green thumb or just don’t have the time to dedicate to a high-maintenance houseplant, this list is perfect for you!
1. Pothos
The Pothos plant, also known as Devil’s Ivy, is arguably one of the most common houseplants. The Pothos plant can survive in low light and bright indirect light areas. Pothos plants require a well-draining pot, and only need watering once a week. If they’re taken care of, this plant can grow up to 30 feet long! This is the perfect plant to drape over shelves, windows, or even your bed frame. The Pothos plant also has many variations, if you’re not a fan of the Golden Pothos you can buy the Spotted Pothos or the Satin Pothos. Golden Pothos
2. Snake plant
The Snake Plant is one of the hardiest houseplants. The Snake Plant can survive in most areas, from full sun to mostly shaded. The Snake Plant is not sensitive towards different temperatures, so you can keep it inside or on the patio. This plant only requires water once a week, or once every two weeks in the winter. 3. Begonia maculata
The Begonia Maculata is one of my favorite plants! It has a beautiful maroon color under the leaves, with silver dots spread throughout the top of the leaf. The leaves will maintain their maroon color the best in bright indirect light, but the plant can survive in lower light situations. This is a very easy going plant, it only needs watering once every two weeks. If you take care of this plant, it might even grow little white flowers! Begonia Maculata
Monstera
The Monstera plant, also known as the Swiss Cheese plant, has become a very popular houseplant because of its famous split leaves resembling swiss cheese. Monstera’s are very easy to maintain. They can survive in most light conditions except direct light, it will singe their leaves. They need a well-draining pot with watering only once a week. Monstera plant
Spider Plant
The spider plant is one of the most popular plants for beginners. Spider plants are happiest in bright indirect light but can survive in most light situations. They only require watering once a week, less in the winter, and do not require a pot with drainage. After a few months, this plant can produce long stems with baby spider plants at the end. You can cut and propagate these babies and give them out to your friends or fill your house with baby spiderettes. Spider plant
Lucky Bamboo
The Lucky Bamboo is another well known houseplant. It’s known to be a symbol of good luck, and is often gifted as a housewarming gift. Lucky Bamboo’s like to live in rocks instead of soil. Most of the time, you can buy Bamboo already planted in rocks, and you do not have to replant them. Lucky Bamboo can live in most light situations, except direct light because it will scorch their leaves. They only need watering once a week but they do require filtered water. Aglaonema
Aglaonema plants are known for their vibrant colors. This plant comes in many different colors, from a patterned green to a striking hot pink. The Aglaonema is tolerant to most light situations, but if you have any of the pink or red Aglaonemas, it will require bright indirect light to keep the color from fading. This plant only requires watering once a week or once every two weeks and does require drainage. This is a very low maintenance plant and will brighten up any room in your home with its beautiful colors and patterns! Pink Valentine
