A new school year means a new schedule, new supplies, and possibly a new dorm. The last thing you want after a long day of classes is coming home to a room that has no personality. Decorating the dorm room is a right of passage for any student living on campus, but it can be tricky to fill all that empty wall space. Here are five ideas to spice up your university walls.
1.Tapestries.
Dorm room walls are blank slates that when left empty, feel almost prison-like. Covering such a large space can be a challenge, especially if that space makes the room feel un-lived in. Tapestries can be pinned up against that blank spot, easily adding a splash of individuality into your room. You can choose from a multitude of different patterns at places such as Urban Outfitters, Target, Amazon and more. Tapestries are a great way to display your personality in your space and make it feel homey, something every student needs in their dorm.
2. Photo Collage.
More likely than not, you have a ton of photos of friends on your phone that you don’t know what to do with. Most people do. A creative way to put those photos to use is to create a photo collage on your dorm room wall. Places such as Walgreens and CVS offer inexpensive photo printing services. Photo collages can be as small or large as you want and make the space feel more personal.
3. Flower Walls.
As a recent Pinterest trend, a flower wall can bring pops of color into your space. Using fake flowers that can be bought at Michaels, Dollar Tree or Target, you can tape or attach them to your wall in different designs or arrangements. There is a lot of freedom in how to implement this idea, from color scheme to type of flower, it’s up to you how you want to express yourself.
4. Shelves.
Blank walls don’t have to be accessorized using hanging decor. An efficient way of creating more storage can also enhance your room. Adding shelves to the room can make it feel more lived in and homey, especially if you add personal knicknacks to it. Putting picture frames, books, plants, lamps and more on the shelf can brighten your space and make those empty walls show off your unique side.
5. Mirror Walls.
One of the more odd sounding ideas on the list is doing a mirror wall. While the concept sounds bizarre, the finished product brings a new light into the room. Using a bunch of differently shaped wall mirrors, that you can find on Etsy, Dormify or Amazon, hang them in patterns or formations on your wall. You can use as many or as little as you see fit. It’s an unusual yet appealing way to fill that space on your walls.
