The bi-annual fashion spectacle that encompasses New York City for a short time is none other than New York Fashion Week. Designers are given the opportunity to unveil their newest collections through runway shows, presentations and pop-ups. NYFW is where creativity meets glamor and style, and I am so grateful to have been able to attend for my second year!

Thanks to Sherri Hill, the well-known designer of formal event gowns, I was lucky enough to attend their Spring ’23 runway show at the iconic Plaza Hotel. As a lover of art, I’m able to appreciate the skill and individuality that goes into creating entirely new collections for women to wear and was surprised by how many dresses there were during the show. Photographers and media sit at the end of the catwalk for runway shows to get the best angle of the collection for publicity and fashion-related news coverage. I could not have imagined a more idyllic venue to hold a fashion show than the Plaza Hotel because it added a magical quality to the event.

Front row guests dressed to the nines took their seats as the lights dimmed and energetic pop music began. The most beautiful models walked out one by one wearing gowns with long trains, fluorescent colors and a range of neckline cuts. My favorite one was a fuchsia pink strapless gown with puffy sleeves, a sculpting bodice and a voluptuous train. The show was seamlessly portioned so that you could tell what dresses were together in style. There were elegant satin dresses with elbowlength gloves and embroidered embellishments, then tiered floor-length gowns with details that made the models look like princesses.

A notable part of the show was the neutral, but still on-brand dresses with sharp cutouts that looked perfect for a New Year’s Eve attire. NYFW models go through hours of hair and makeup leading up to the event, and the cosmetology of the Sherri Hill show was very consistent throughout— loose face-framing waves and glowy skin. Models with curly or coily textures beautifully sported natural or braided hair. A tremendous amount of work goes into every fashion show from the designs and production to the event planning and model casting.

NYFW showcases the best of the best designers, models and creatives from all over the world. Sherri Hill creates pieces for empowering women and enhancing youthful beauty with colors and cuts that are consistent every season, so much so that you know it’s a Sherri Hill dress without even checking the tag. The creator of Sherri Hill, who shares the name, was inspired to pursue a career in the fashion industry from a young age and studied the designs of evening wear clothing. Her designs caught the interest of the public after being worn by many Miss America, Miss USA and Miss Universe pageant contestants. Sherri Hill dresses have also been worn by Kendall & Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande.

I am so grateful to Sherri Hill for allowing me to photograph their newest Spring ‘23 collection and giving everyone in attendance a memorable night. You can visit the Sherri Hill website to shop their newest pieces or stay up to date with them via social media.
