5 Tips for Nailing the Perfect Photo-Ready Outfit

It’s happened to every fashionista at some point: You’re scrolling through Pinterest and suddenly you come across the perfect street style look—flawless styling, shoes to die for and the latest It-bag, all photographed from the perfect angle—and you hit re-pin immediately. But how do the bloggers and street style stars do it? After all, it has to take tons of energy and pricey designer labels to create the perfect photo-ready outfit, right? Wrong. With a few easy tips and tricks, it’s easy to make any outfit look picture perfect. We show you the tricks for nailing the street style star look.

1. Layer up

The easiest way to add interest to any look? Layering, of course! We love the way street style bloggers like Sincerely Jules pile on extra pieces to add colors, prints, and textures to a look! The best part about layering? It’s easy to make a flawless outfit out of the staples you already have in your closet. To get the look, try wearing an open denim shirt over a casual white tee and a grey tailored vest or jacket. Finish off the outfit with a leather skirt on bottom to give it an edge! For another on-trend layering combo, try a turtleneck top peeking out of a dress, which incorporates another layer to a simple dress and keeps you warm on chillier days!

2. It’s all in the details

To make those zoomed-in shots really pop, street style stars are all about the little details. Whether it’s a little bit of fringe on a skirt, dainty embroidering on a blouse or a killer pair of shoes, wearing pieces with interesting or quirky little touches will make those close-up outfit shots all the more chic! To get the look, we love a super trendy bohemian skirt with fringe detail. For the girlier dresser, a pencil skirt with an elegant lace hem does the trick. Statement shoes with a pattern like snake or leopard are also a great way to add game-changing accents to your look!

3. Proportion play

To make your look extra dramatic, playing with different proportions, lengths and sizes is the way to go! Oversize pieces like chunky knits, wide-leg culottes and midi skirts are definitely having a moment among the street style set, and are easy pieces to throw on when you need to spice up a minimal look. Worried about oversize pieces causing you to look large in front of the camera? Try picking one oversize statement piece, and keeping the rest of the look fitted and streamlined for the most flattering silhouette.

4. Color it up

It’s true: Fashionistas love their blacks, grays and neutrals, but to really make an outfit photo-ready, a colorful accent piece in a monochrome outfit can go a long way! We love the way street style blogger Annabel Rosendahl uses her pink coat to add a fashion forward touch to an otherwise all gray look, making for a street style snap that we can’t take our eyes off of! To get the look, it helps to pick a colorful piece and build your full outfit around it—try a colorful topper over a minimal outfit, or a bright statement wrap skirt with a gray or camel top!

For some street style stars, the rule is always “more is more” when it comes to accessories. In the best street style snaps of fashion’s risk takers like Anna Dello Russo, statement-making accessories and stacked jewelry are what make the look! The easiest way to up your accessories game? Try a bold bag! A bag with an eye-catching color or an unexpected texture is a great way to add a fashion-forward touch to your look. To make your outfit stand out even more, feel free to pile on the jewelry! Pieces like statement necklaces and sparkly ear cuffs can take any look from ordinary to photo-ready.
