Earth Lovers: Desired Cleanliness Can Be Obtained

Another thing I’ve realized in taking the Earth Lovers Three-Minute Shower Challenge is that a 3-minute shower may be okay for normal, every-old school days, but will that be enough for me when I’ve been sweating really hard all day?

I spent yesterday volunteering (gardening, landscaping) for 5 hours and then played broomball with some friends. Needless to say, it was a very sweaty day. It was the first time that I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to take a shower in my allotted time that would meet my cleanliness standard. It reminded me of fall football season, when nearly every Saturday results in a sweaty mess of a shower.

In addition to being an engineering student, I also play mellophone and trumpet in the University of California Marching Band, affectionately known as “Cal Band”. That means that at home football games, I march in the pregame, halftime, and post-game shows, in addition to playing music in the stands. This adds up to a 4-hours sweat-fest in our extremely thick polyester uniforms. While the student section is wearing tank tops and shorts, we’re there is our overall pants, jacket, overlay, hat, gloves, Believe me, you don’t want to stand too close to us afterwards…

After a long game day, all I want to do is shower, eat, and sleep, not necessarily in that order. However, because I feel so sweaty and gross, my showers usually end up in the 15-25 minute range. The thought of getting almost as equally sweaty and then only allowing myself a 3-minute shower seemed daunting. I was able to make it in under 3 minutes, though, by picking a song with a great upbeat tempo to keep me moving throughout my shower.

What I did with my extra 10 minutes: cleaned my room (or at least attempted to…)
