Unpop Op: I HATE The Bachelor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

Okay friends, we are back again for another unpopular opinion segment. This one dedicated to all my The Bachelor fanatics.

If you are someone who is living under a rock and does not know what I am talking about. Here is a basic premise. Here we have a stunning man (or woman) who has 25 contestants of the opposite sex come and compete for the love of this so-called “stunning” bachelor. The contestants battle it out by seeing who can be able to flirt and sleep the most with the host. They will have their hearts broken and the person who makes it to the end they will become engaged.

First off, that is the dumbest thing that I have heard on my life. I think the whole show is problematic in the sense that it is what Hollywood wants people to consider what “love” is. Hellooo, but this is not love. How can one person fall for 25 people all at once? Love is something that should not be fabricated like this so heavily. Love is the simple act of meeting someone and getting to know them. Feeling an immediate connection. You get to see all their faults and hear about their mistakes. But these women and men are prim and proper and mostly white. They have their shining teeth and perfect hair.

And again, they are mostly WHITE. Last time I checked, not only white people need to fall in love. The show really harps on this idea. Also, can we talk about the idea that they are also heterosexual couples?! We is the variety people?! WE NEED DIVERSITY IN ALL MEDIUMS. I WANT TO SEE THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY, THE BLACK COMMUNITY, THE LATINO COMMUNITY, TO BE SUPPORTED!

You know, what? I need to be on The Bachelorette as a host. I want to go on there and send people home because of the pettiest reasons.

“Sorry, I am pretty sure that your front tooth is crooked. Please leave.”

“Oh my god, you have a hairy chest. Kill me. I am done. Leave.”

“YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LOVE PANIC AT THE DISCO, BUT YOU HAVE TO TOLERATE THEM. YOU NO LONGER DESERVE MY LOVE.”

This ends our second article for our Unpop Ops. Stay petty, see you soon!
