Bachelor Finale Recap!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at YCP chapter.

It’s finally over! The bachelor, Nick Viall, has gone public with his “dream girl” after the most dramatic finale in bachelor history. Not going to lie it seems like Chris Harrison always finds some reason to give the finale this coveted title, but I will say this year was definitely undeserved. I am not ashamed to admit that I have watched my fair share of bachelor and bachelorette seasons from Sean and Catherine to Juan Pablo and whoever he ended up with (nobody really knows). Yet, this season was the first year where I truly wanted it to end from the start.

Nick, the leading man, has been on the bachelor franchise three times. In case you didn’t catch it I said THREE TIMES! That is an insane amount for even the most fame seeking past contestants. To keep it brief I despise the man. The first season he was arrogant and unlikable, the second a weaseling jerk and the third only slightly less horrible. Personally I was shocked they gave him a fourth chance to begin with, no less as the star bachelor, since I barely tolerated him as it was.

So even after three chances the man has still not found love and was runner up twice. Has he finally managed to change his fate in chance #4? I would argue no. Although he did propose to Vanessa Grimaldi and she accepted, their relationship is likely doomed. First off, Vanessa is a smart, beautiful, headstrong woman who can do so much better than Nick. Second, Nick being 36, single and a “reality TV star” 4 times has a lot of baggage…and ego. And third Nick will be appearing on DWST which means he will be dancing wit scantily clad women right after their engagement, right in front of Vanessa! Although, it helps that they paired him with the dancer who is happily engaged with a baby, I do not see their relationship lasting.

Not to mention, the finale was pretty hard to watch. From the beginning I did always find Vanessa to be the clear gem and favorite. However, the two fought throughout the season and I honestly did not think they would make it till the end. Their proposals seemed kind of forced and staged as it was, but the after the finale rose sealed the deal for me. When they were interviewed together on the show it was probably one of the most awkward experiences for me. They didn’t seem sincerely happy, dodged engagement questions and hinted that they have already had issues throughout the show’s airing.

Overall, I would not be surprised if their relationship ends shortly after Nick’s time on DWTS. While, I have made it clear that I do not like Nick as a person, I do sincerely wish the best for him. It would be wonderful if he stayed with Vanessa since I would never have to see his face on another episode of the bachelor again. If you think I have been exaggerating how horrible he is I suggest you google him from past seasons! Well that concludes my (hopefully last) rant about Nick Viall again. I’m sure the new bachelorette, Rachel, will make us proud!
