10 Things To Wear For Spring Fling

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Yale chapter.

Spring Fling is right around the corner, and while some people are wondering if they’ve ever heard a Deorro song besides “Five More Hours” or if they’re going to make it to DKE Tang the next day (does anyone ever actually do it? Props to you brave souls out there), there are just as many of us who are wondering what to wear. Well, never fear, beautiful ladies of Yale: I’ve compiled a list of ideas for what to wear for Spring Fling. Now all you’ll have to worry about is how to pace yourself so you don’t black out by 10 a.m. (yikes)!

1) Fanny packs.

I know these seem to be worn only among members of sororities and for non-Greeks it might be a turnoff, but take it from me: fanny packs are the most useful party accessory. Like, ever. Phone? Check. ID? Check. Money? Check. A mini flask? Check. Plus, some fanny packs are actually cute. Fashion AND function? Sign me up.

Check out FannyPacks4Ever on Etsy and SoJourner Bags on Amazon, and if you’re feeling especially creative, you can even order a custom fanny pack here.

2) Frat shoes.

…or Woads shoes, or party shoes in general. You don’t want your favorite pair of Superstars or Converse to get ruined, do you? These sneakers are literally $8 and should do the job just fine.

3) Sunglasses.

It seems that the latest trend for sunglasses is colored and/or mirrored lenses, and what better way to celebrate Spring Fling by adding (another) pop of color to your outfit? Here are several pairs from Urban Outfitters, all of which are available in the store on Broadway! You can either stop by to find them on your own or purchase them online for in-store pickup.

For a mirrored lens, check out this orange-mirrored pair or this silver-mirrored pair.

If you see the world through rose-tinted glasses, these might be the pair for you.

If you want a true round lens (think 70’s vibes), take a look at these.

For aviators in all shades, click here.

For a more neutral lens in a fun round shape, try these on for size.

4) The Social Life.

This one is for members of sororities who wanna rep at Spring Fling. You’ve probably received something from The Social Life at some point, whether at bid night or during big/little week, but have you ever checked out their online store on your own? You’d be surprised at all the options they have.

Here are the pages for Alpha Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi.

5) Flower crowns.

These give off an effortless festival vibe that’s perfect for spring. Amazon has tons of options to choose from.

6) American Apparel (and stores like it!)

Unfortunately, many of us are used to getting party/darty/costume/neon/??? clothes from the American Apparel on Broadway, which is now closed. Unfortunately, AA’s website no longer offers online purchasing and is cleaning their stock out in stores only. Fortunately, you can still find some brand-new American Apparel clothing on Amazon and eBay. Plus, it’s cheaper than buying from actual American Apparel.

And honestly, you can’t go wrong with good ol’ Forever 21 and H&M.

7) Flash tats and stick-on rhinestones.

Again, Amazon comes in clutch with metallic temporary tattoos and a 900-piece set of rhinestones for face, nails, and body that includes every color in the rainbow.

And here’s a how-to guide on sticking rhinestones to the body so that they’ll stay all day.

8) A snapback or cap.

Refer back to The Social Life if you want to rep a Greek organization. Otherwise, check out these customizable snapbacks for $12 each.

9) Rave bracelets.

You know how when we were little, we would make bracelets with those white, square-shaped lettered beads? Well, they’re still cool, and apparently they’re called rave bracelets now. You can get a full bracelet beading kit from Amazon for ten dollars. If that’s not an amazing deal, I don’t know what is.

10) Sunscreen, a fully charged phone, your ID, and a water bottle. No, I’m not kidding. Take care of yourselves, ladies.
