Give a warm welcome to Her Campus WVWC’s newest Style Icon, Megan Branch!
This is Megan’s first year at Wesleyan, but that hasn’t stopped her from making a name for herself.
She recently became a new member of Alpha Gamma Delta—and of course, her new sisters are already obsessed with her. With a genuine personality and laugh-out-loud wit like hers, how could anyone not be?
Megan is currently undecided, but is leaning toward taking on an English major.
But there’s one thing she has decided: to show off her one-of-a-kind personality with a wardrobe to match!
She understands the importance of using style to highlight one’s personality rather than hide it, which is a philosophy we could all stand to adopt. Now, without further ado, here is some style advice from the Icon herself!
MS: How would you describe your wardrobe?
MB: I would describe my wardrobe as girly, colorful, and even preppy. I love collars, blazers, loafers, skirts and bright colors!
MS: Where do you typically shop?
MB: The main stores I go to and like a lot are Forever 21, J. Crew, Charlotte Russe, and H&M. I definitely shop on a budget.
MS: Do you usually follow trends or march to the beat of your own drum?
MB: A little of both? If something becomes a trend and I like it, I’ll wear it. On the other side, if I like something and it’s not something anyone else likes, if it isn’t in style, it really doesn’t matter to me. I’ll wear whatever I think is cute.
MS: Do you look to anyone else’s style for inspiration?
MB: No, I generally just go with whatever I’m feeling. If I see someone wearing something I like, I might be inspired by a particular outfit, but I don’t look to anyone specific.
MS: What are some of your favorite winter fashion staples?
MB: Scarves, leather jacket, boots and boot-socks. Over-sized sweaters are my favorite winter fashion staple and are definitely a necessity in the cold.
MS: What is the biggest risk you have every taken with your wardrobe? Was it worth it?
MB: When I was a freshman in high school, I bought a pair of red jeans—before anyone was wearing colored jeans—and they sat in my closet for weeks until I finally decided to just wear them and I am so glad I did! Not only did I get tons of compliments, but I absolutely love colored jeans now and wear them all the time.
MS: What advice would you give to your fellow collegiettes in regard to style?
MB: My advice would be to not make yourself uncomfortable, but a spending a few extra minutes each day picking out an outfit can go a long way. Also, don’t be afraid to try things you wouldn’t normally wear just because no one else is wearing them.
We love hearing from all the fashionistas on campus!
