Tips to Stay Motivated at the End of the Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

As the spring semester winds down, students become more and more lazy and less motivated to participate in school functions or even do their homework. The library becomes used more and more as students attempt to catch up last minute and professor’s office hours are utilized more frequently. Even though the motto “C’s get degrees” is still a popular phrase used among college students, it is important to remember that staying motivated will allow you to finish your semester off strong. Here are a few tips to help you earn straight A’s and begin your summer with confidence and positivity:

1. Manage your time. A lot of the time, professors unintentionally cram a lot of material into the last few weeks of the semester. It is important to keep track of deadlines and allot yourself enough time to complete assignments and look over the final product. Managing your time will also help to reduce any stress students have over having a planner full of “to-do” lists.

2. Go to class. The last few weeks of the semester always seem to be the longest. Classes seem longer, which makes it easier for students to simply not go. The snooze button becomes more relevant and your bed seems more comfortable. However, students do more poorly if they do not go to class. You can borrow notes or ask a friend but nothing is more beneficial than hearing a lecture and taking your own notes.

3. Reward yourself. When you are down to the last wire, it seems like there is no time for anything else. However, that’s not the case. Giving yourself time to reflect on your progress will help to push you through and keep you going. Take a break to go out to dinner or go to the movies.

4. Do your work. This is probably the most important tip to remember when finishing out the semester. This will keep you on track and allow you to have a better chance to achieve the grades you wish to earn in a certain class.

These few tips will surely help you know eliminate unmotivated attitudes you may have been feeling recently and remind you that being successful and finishing out the semester strong is a rewarding feeling when you are sitting on the beach, enjoying the sun during the summer!
