Campus Celebrity: Carter Bagnall ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WM chapter.

Name: Carter Bagnall

Social Class: Junior

Major: Psychology with a Math minor

Hometown: Bristol, Virginia

Activities on campus: I’m the Vice President of Philanthropy for Alpha Chi Omega, I’m involved in RUF (Reformed University Fellowship), and I’m a research assistant in a psychology lab.

Favorite tradition at the College: I love the moment after convocation when all the new students walk through Wren and are greeted by the campus community. As a freshman, it was the moment that W&M felt like home, and it’s also great to participate on the other side!

What motivated you to get involved with Alpha Chi Omega’s philanthropy? I think AXO’s philanthropy (Domestic Violence Awareness) was really what inspired me to join the chapter. In high school I was a volunteer at my local women’s shelter, so when I came here and heard about Alpha Chi’s philanthropy it just felt like a perfect fit.

What elements of our philanthropy are you most passionate about? For me it’s the thought that the efforts we put into our philanthropy are directly effecting the Williamsburg community. The women at Avalon Women’s Shelter could easily be the person behind you at Food Lion or beside you on the bus, and knowing that we can make a difference so close to home is really special.

What is your favorite philanthropy event? Healthy Relationships Week is definitely my favorite! I think it’s a great opportunity to educate the campus about what an unhealthy relationship looks like, and promote a healthy form of love. This year to go along with our campaign we will be hosting a showing of “The Hunting Ground”, a documentary about sexual assault on college campuses. It’s Tuesday, 6-8pm in Andrews 101 and we’d love to see you there!

What has been your favorite part of being VP Philanthropy so far? Well at the heart of my job, the best part is knowing that I’ve hopefully made some difference in the lives of others. But I have to say, getting to meet Reveley to get his “Love is…” picture for Healthy Relationships week has to be high on the list!
