Why You Should Attend the Fall Internship & Career Fair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.
This Tuesday, September 23rd, UW-Madison is hosting its fall Career and Internship Fair. The event is being held at the Kohl Center from 4-8pm and you need to be there! You might be questioning me, thinking, “But I already have a job…” or “I’m only a freshman…” Well, here’s why it’s worth your time to go:
1. It’s never too early to look for opportunities!
So what if you’re a freshman or undecided about your major? The fair provides an opportunity to learn about various careers and internships that are available to students. You can get a feel for some companies and potentially find careers you’re interested in! You can also figure out what extra-curricular activities would be useful for you to get involved in if you’re hoping to land a particular job in the future.

2. You’ll meet a ton of people!
It’s all about networking! By attending the Career fair you’ll meet many important people like the CEOs and representatives of high-impact companies like 3M, General Mills, Macy’s and Target. You can ask questions about their company and even learn some useful strategies to get yourself in their position by asking them how they did it! Not to mention you’re likely to meet fellow students with similar career goals as you!

3. There will be a free photo booth!
No, not a silly photo booth with costumes and film strips. The UW is offering students the opportunity to have their photo professionally taken for their LinkedIn profile. The importance of a professional online presence is becoming ever more important, so take advantage of this FREE opportunity to make sure you’re putting forth the right image!

4. Lastly… why not!?
The fair won’t cut into your party time. It’s on a Tuesday night, it’s over by 8 and you don’t even have to stay all four hours. You might as well go see what it’s all about! Besides, we know you’d just be procrastinating homework anyways!
