How-to Wear Scarves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

Scarves: the ultimate winter accessory.  Now that the grounds are getting frostier and the winds are getting chillier, it’s time to cast away our cute, summery headbands and pull out the scarves.  Apart from being practical by keeping our necks toasty, winter scarves can pull any outfit together.  But don’t get stuck wearing your scarf the same, boring way every day.  Here are some of our favorite scarf styles to try out this winter.

1.     The Twist and Drape

Fold your scarf in half and tie both ends into small knots.   Open the scarf into a ring shaped circle and drape it over your head with the knotted ends in the back.   Next, twist the scarf in the back and flip knotted end over head while pulling neck material out, away from your neck.  Lastly, pull one knotted end up between neck and material and fluff to finish.

2.     The Double Wrap

Drape the scarf behind your neck, then wrap each end across your neck and around your shoulders.  Wind around the back of your neck, wrap back around your shoulders, and fluff the neckline.

3.     The Loop-n-Through

Start by folding your scarf in half.  Next, drape it around your neck with the looped end on one shoulder.  To finish, pull long end through the loop.

4.     The Fashion Knot

Fold your scarf in half.   Next, drape around your neck with the looped end on one shoulder, just like the loop-n-through.  This time, only pull one side through the loop.   Lastly, pull the second side over and through the loop.

5.     The Loop-n-Through with Knot

Start with a normal Loop-n-Through knot.  From there, pull the long end under the neckline, tuck it over the top, and pull it back down through the loop.  Tighten and fluff.

Don’t get stuck in a scarf rut.  Try out these adorable styles and you’ll be strutting your scarf game down the winter sidewalk every day.  Say hello to your new favorite accessory!
