5 Movie Trailers That Look Good Enough to Win an Oscar in 2018

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winthrop chapter.

At long last, silly comedies that flunked in the box office are exiting the theaters, and true, insightful films are re-entering. Between fabulous cinematography to artistic and powerful original scores and screenplays, Oscar season is upon us.

And as you start to save your money to spend at the theater on the colder days upon us, here’s a list to help you out on which movies to see because they definitely look good enough to win an Oscar.

Mother!

This trailer doesn’t give much away about the movie, but that’s why it looks so great. It’s obviously a violent and mysterious movie, and with a character as spooky (and sexy!) as Javier Bardem, with supporting actress Jennifer Lawrence, it’s bound to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Wind River

If “Wind River” also makes it into the Oscar’s as a nomination for 2018, then it will definitely be a year of chilling and mysterious films. Starring Mary-Kate and Ashley’s little sister, Elizabeth Olsen, she stars as a new FBI agent investigating a murder of a young girl in a Native American Reservation.

Hostiles

Christian Bale fans are rejoicing because he’s back in theaters after a two-year hiatus! The trailer for this movie makes it seem like Bale will be nominated for Best Actor or the film itself will be nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. IMDB describes the movie as, “In 1892, a legendary Army captain reluctantly agrees to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family through dangerous territory.” Check it out!

The Current War

If you love movies based on historic events, you’ll *love* this trailer. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, this is the story about Thomas Edison and the race to invent and produce electricity. It’s bound to be a movie that you’ll learn a lot and want to watch it again.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The saga continues with episode 8 and “Star Wars” nerds everywhere are PUMPED! The fact that Mark Hamill is returning to the franchise makes it known that it’ll be an awesome movie.  So, Collegeittes, grab your popcorn and candy and head on over to your local theaters to watch the movies that will probably be nominated for an Oscar!

Which trailer do you think looks best?!
