The Ultimate Winter Break To-Do List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

With finals done, the stress from them finally gone, and you’re home for winter break, it feels good to know that you don’t have to worry about studying for an exam, or writing a research paper for an entire month. Winter break is the perfect time to do all the things you try to fit in during the school year, but just don’t have time for!

Pinterest CraftingTake time to look over your Pinterest boards and ideas that you’ve been pinning all semester long. Make that dessert you’ve been eyeing up, paint that canvas you’ve wanted to make to hang on your wall, or do that workout routine!

Read a BookRead the last book you had on your summer reading list, but didn’t quite get to, read one that has been sitting around that you’ve been meaning to read, or treat yourself to one just meant for winter break and enjoy it because it’s finally something other than a textbook for class.

Knit or CrochetWinter break is the perfect time to make some scarves, gloves, hats, whatever you know how to make, or to even teach yourself how! Curl up in front of the fire, and take some time to knit or crochet something you’ve been working on but never got around to finishing, or make something for someone for a gift for the holiday season.

VolunteerYou may not have time during the school year, but there is plenty of time over break, and it’s always more special to volunteer around the holiday season. Help out your favorite local charity. Not only will you feel good about helping out, but they will appreciate your help as well!

SleepSleep is something everyone lacks during the school year, and especially during finals week. Winter break is the perfect time to sleep in, take a nap whenever you want, and catch up on some much needed zzz’s after working hard all semester!

Go ShoppingWinter break means that the holiday season is coming up, which means gifts will be exchanged. Take some time to shop for your loved ones. With the busy-ness of the school year, shopping might be something you enjoy and you don’t have time to go to the mall, or in our case, even have one near your school. Head out for a fun day with your girls and treat yourself to a few new things!

Watch NetflixTake time to binge watch that Netflix show you’ve wanted to watch, or catch up on episodes you had to put off to study for finals! We all know we can spend hours watching Netflix, so what time better than winter break?

Pamper YourselfWhile being at school, you may postpone getting your hair done or your nails re-filled or done, or you may not have a place you’re comfortable going to around your school. Going home for winter break is the perfect opportunity to go to your usual salon, update your highlights, and to get your nails done cute for the holiday season!

Get A Head Start On SummerDo some summer job searching and get ahead of the game before spring semester starts up. Take serious time to get in contact with past summer jobs to possibly get hired back again this summer, or look into internships to get experience with your major.

Take A ClassClass is most likely the last thing on your mind during winter break, but a class not involved with school, and that interests you such as a cooking class, or a Wine and Canvas event, to sip on some wine and paint in a fun setting with some friends is a creative, fun, and inexpensive outing for over winter break. Reconnect With FamilySince heading off to college at the end of the summer you’ve been constantly involved in your studies, new friends and new experiences and there probably hasn’t been a lot of time to keep up with your family back home. Winter break is the perfect time to spend quality time with your parents, brothers, sisters, or extended family. Plan a family dinner outing. You will have the opportunity to bond over a meal at your favorite restaurant you haven’t had since summer, and your parents may even pay for your meal!

Making your winter break fun and eventful is important, but so is taking time to relax, distress, and get ready for the semester ahead. Use these ideas as things to look forward during this finals week!
