5 Things You Hear as an Engineering Student at Wash U

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

1) “You’re in engineering? You must be soooo smart!”

I wouldn’t really consider myself to be smarter than anyone taking classes in any of the other colleges. Sometimes, I don’t even know what I’m doing in my classes. All Wash U students are smart in their own ways :)

2) “You’re taking Calc AND Physics? How do you handle all that work?”

Every night I pray to my calculus textbook hoping that maybe, just maybe, it will do my work for me. I’m just joking. I try my best to manage my time properly like everyone else.

3) “I have no idea where any of the engineering buildings are.”

It’s pretty easy to miss out on some of the engineering buildings since they’re on the far left side of campus.

4) “I’m so bad at coding! How can you dedicate an entire career to it?”

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I’m super bad at Social Studies but there are plenty of other students who can excel at that subject and major in it.

5) “Wow, you’re like, the only engineer I hang out with.”

Engineers don’t make up the majority of the Wash U population, so you’ll only come across one occasionally.
