5 Original Outdoor Activities for Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Now that Spring is rapidly approaching (this Friday!), it’s time to enjoy all that St. Louis has to offer outdoors. Though a walk to Forest Park and lounging on Art Hill is always nice on a sunny day, sometimes you may want to switch up your routine. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous and creative, here are my 5 top picks for warm weather activities.

1. Go on a hike: While Missouri may be known as a flat state, there are certainly plenty of trails around. I recently downloaded the All Trails app and I’m pretty obsessed. With just the tap of your finger, it lists all the great hiking trails around you as well as their difficultly level with reviews from fellow hikers!

2. Taste some vino: I’m speaking to you folks who are 21 and over of course… There are several wineries around, but conveniently next to the Lewis and Clark Trail is Chandler Hill Vineyards. Visit and take a tour and receive a wine tasting flight for as little as $5!

3. Smell the flowers: The Missouri Botanical Garden is the perfect place to enjoy beautiful scenery and a stroll on a pleasant day. Even better, you get a discount if you’re a St. Louis resident. Can you say cha-ching?

4. Drive up to a movie: Did you know St. Louis has its very own drive-in movie theatre? Though a bit of a drive away, the Sky View Drive-In Theatre opens March 27th. Check out the movies coming soon on their website.

5. Buy some local food: While the Loop and Soulard farmers markets are both open year-round, they are vastly more enjoyable when the weather is nice. Springtime also means a greater variety of produce and more vendors!

So put down the books and get outside! After all, learning about wine is educational, right?
