Fashion in the Forest: Top 5 Ways to Transition From Summer to Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

As the weather starts to cool down, it’s easy to get stuck in a fashion limbo period.  How can you incorporate your summer clothes without looking too summery, or start wearing your fall wardrobe without being too warm? Here are five ways to slowly transition into your fall wardrobe without falling too deeply into either season.

Cowboy boots

Cowboy boots are a very popular trend on campus and are a good transition boot.  Girls wear cowboy boots all year, so until it’s cold enough for our coveted riding boots, cowboy boots are a good go-to boot. Tuck them into jeans or wear them with a cute dress; cowboy boots are a perfect transition into fall!

Shorts and sweaters
Some days on campus are still pretty warm, so wearing shorts with a sweater is the perfect way to stay cool while avoiding looking too summery.  A cute v-neck sweater with an oxford underneath and a pair of colored shorts is one of my favorite outfits to wear to class. Tuck it in and add a colorful belt and pair of ballet flats, and you’re set!

Trade your sandals for ballet flats
I know none of us want to admit it, but it’s time to retire our Jack Rogers for the season.  But don’t worry; Jack Rogers makes ballet flats that are just as cute as your beloved Navajos! The Rogers Slim Ballet Flat is my personal favorite.  Tory Burch Revas are another popular style on campus, and they come in a multitude of fun colors that will brighten up any outfit.  Wear your ballet flats with jeans, dresses, skirts, or shorts.

Colored jeans
Colored jeans are one of my favorite trends.  They’re perfect for cooler days on campus and are a fun change from blue jeans.  Don’t be afraid to wear bright colors or fun patterns! Wear them with a chambray shirt and a chunky necklace and you have a perfect, comfortable outfit.  Mix and match colors by wearing a different color shirt or add a scarf to complete your outfit!

Blazers
Blazers add a classic, sophisticated flair to any outfit. Wear a classic navy blazer, or a bright patterned one.  A good, fitted blazer is a year round staple for your wardrobe.  Wear it over a dress or with jeans, a blazer is easy to throw on to dress up any outfit.  While the weather is still warm enough for only a light jacket, a blazer is perfect for class or a walk around campus.  My personal favorite is the J. Crew Schoolboy Blazer!

Hey collegiettes! I'm Arianna and I am a freshman at Wake Forest University. I love all things preppy, but also like to incorporate trends into my wardrobe. I plan to major in communications and possibly minor in French. I can't wait to begin my Her Campus career and hope you enjoy my blog posts!
