6 Reasons Why You Should Bullet Journal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

For those of you who have no idea what a bullet journal is, it is like a DIY planner where you can customize your pages based on what your life is like. It’s easy, fun and a GREAT way to be organized for the semester. I’ve been bullet journaling for a month now, so here are my thoughts of why you should get into bullet journaling and some examples of my pages from my journal!

1. You can choose your own format.

Like I said before, bullet journaling allows you to be flexible with how you want your pages to look and what you need in your planner based on your life. Although there are so many components online that show how to format a bullet journal, you really don’t need to worry about doing all of them! Pick and choose the ones that you know will benefit you the most.

2. You can express your creative side.

Whether you are a great artist or a stick-figure artist, bullet journaling can help you get creative with lettering, drawing and even doodling! It doesn’t even have to perfect like the ones you scroll through on Pinterest. The best part of bullet journaling is that you can add your personal touch to it. So make it personal!

3. You feel in charge of what you’re doing.

The best feeling at the end of my day is going through my journal and crossing of tasks that I completed. It feels like I’m actually in charge of what I’m doing. It seems like a little task, but after a both a good or rough day, you feel accomplished knowing that you finished what needed to be done.

4. It doesn’t have to just be a planner.

Your bullet journal doesn’t have to be just about homework. In fact, you can create a bunch of different pages. For example, I have habit trackers and mood trackers. I track the habits that I want to be able to complete every day or a couple times a week. I also have water trackers every week to check how much water I drink a day. You can also have brain dump pages! I like to see this as a page where I can doodle or write whatever I want. And lastly, I like to incorporate quote pages that inspire me and just take a break from structured schedules.

5. It’s a fun and encouraging way to stay organized.

Sometimes, staying organized can be a really difficult thing to stay on top of. If some days become too hectic, your organization probably goes out the window. Having a personalized journal will help you stay on top of your tasks even at your most busiest days. And more importantly, with your preferred style on your pages, filling out your bullet journal will be a fun part of your day!

6. It’s seriously easy and fun.

The point of bullet journaling is to not stress about it! Again, make it your own style! Don’t get intimidated by those really pretty ones online. Trust me, I know how that feels. In the end, it matters how you organize and create your bullet journal. Make your creativity come to life!

Hopefully this convinced you to go buy a journal and pens! Get ready for an organized and creative semester! Good luck!
