6 Places to Study Around VCU That Aren’t Cabell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

As every VCU student knows, the library is always packed during the school year. This can sometimes be hard when you have trouble studying in your dorm, but can’t find a spot in the library. So here’s a list of some other great places around campus to study.

1. Rodney’s in the bottom of Shafer

Rodney’s is a great place for the person who needs a little bit of noise in order to concentrate. There are always plenty of tables available, and a lot of the tables have access to electrical outlets. It is also a good collaboration space because you can push tables together if needed and you still have plenty of room.

2. Upstairs in the University Student Commons

During the day the upstairs part of the University Student Commons is very quiet and few venture up there. While electrical outlets are kind of scarce, it is a great place to read a good book or just take some time for yourself.

3. The Student Academic Commons (AKA MCALC)

The Student Academic Commons offers space on each floor to study and do collaborative work. There are outlets at most of the seats in each space and it is also great for people who need a quiet place to study.

4. Shafer Court Dining Center

Shafer Court Dining Center is a great place to study when you have a couple of hours and you are hungry. You can find a nice little nook in the back part and you can work away the day while taming your appetite.

5. Courtyard behind Oliver Hall

On a nice day, the courtyard behind Oliver is a great place to sit and work. There are shaded tables underneath the overhang of Oliver or you can sit on the grass in the quad. It is a great place on a nice day to just go and sit.

6. Atrium in Snead Hall

Snead Hall is a great place to go and study because there are a lot of tables and places to sit and do work. The Atrium is by far my favorite place to sit because it gives you a lot of natural light, the chairs are comfy and there are a lot of electrical outlets on the floor. It’s also a great place to get some food while studying since Bleeker Street is right there.

Next time you need a change of scenery for your study time try out one of these. HCXO!
