5 Brands Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at VCU chapter.

As I’m sure you’re aware, October is the official Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is a time to raise awareness for and educate people about breast cancer. Every year, millions of people, organizations, teams and companies do something to show their support for the cause.

Lee, the clothing company

Lee came up with National Denim Day, celebrated on Oct. 3, which encourages people to donate $5 to the American Cancer Society’s fight against breast cancer in exchange for wearing jeans to work.  Lee’s awesome idea has raised over $91 million for breast cancer research.

Philadelphia Eagles

This fabulous NFL team kicked off breast cancer awareness at the beginning of the month by inviting families from Bringing Hope Home and the Center for Grieving Children and together they painted seats in the Lincoln Financial Field in the shape of a pink ribbon. Super cute right?  The players hung out with the kids for the rest of the day.  The Eagles raised over $1.5 million for breast cancer awareness.

Pac Man

The creators of Pac Man teamed up with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to launch the Ms. Pac Man Pink Ribbon campaign. The game is available for download for the month of October with new pink artwork and even new mazes.  All proceeds with go to the foundation.

Kate Moss & Stella McCartney

Supermodel Kate Moss teamed up with designer Stella McCartney on her new line of pink lingerie in honor of breast cancer.  The line is designed to remind women to give themselves breast exams.  Proceeds will benefit the Linda McCartney Centre in the UK.

VCU’s I Am That Girl

An awesome student organization known as I Am That Girl (they promote self-love and confidence among young women) held an event on campus in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.  They offered a series of activities such as Bra-Pong for everyone to partake in.  Proceeds went to Sisters Network Central Virginia, Inc. in Richmond. You can still donate here!

Be on the look out for cool events and ways to raise awareness in your community this month. Make ‘Breastober’ a fun one!
