The HC Declassified School Survival Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Vanderbilt chapter.

We were so excited to receive our #HCSurvivalKits last week because they have all kinds of fun products to get us through life at Vandy. Whether it’s Monday morning, Hump Day, or a tailgate on Saturday, these are some awesome ways to up your game.

Monday: Roll out of bed and trudge to your morning class with a cup of coffee in your Camelbak Forge Divide travel coffee mug. The Forge Divide is all-terrain mug that makes it easy to drink coffee or tea one-handed, with a drinking valve that opens with the press of a button, and then seals shut to prevent leaks or spills. The leak-proof cap means you can confidently toss the Forge Divide into your bag without soaking your stuff. You’ll save money (and meal swipes) by making coffee in your room instead of hitting up Last Drop or Starbucks every day.

If it’s getting too chilly to wear a dress to chapter, but you have to look formal, try adding a pair of tights, like L’eggs sheers. Black sheers provide perfect balance of sheer and light opaque coverage.

Tuesday: In my opinion, Tuesday is the worst day of the week. When you get back to your room, try one of these hilarious books to de-stress. If you’re a freshman, you’ll love The Roommate Book. Filled with nuggets of wisdom, comical pie charts, hypotheticals, and illustrations, this book tackles communal living topics like “Should I eat this without asking?”, “Creating Nicknames,” and “A Case for Blanket Forts.” If you’re a senior panicking about what to do after graduation, take a break from applying to everything on DoreWays and check out Adulthood is a Myth. In this graphic novel, Sarah’s frankness on personal issues like body image, self-consciousness, introversion, relationships, and the frequency of bra-washing makes her comics highly relatable and deeply hilarious.

Wednesday: HUMP DAAAAY! Kick back with your friends and have a mini spa night with some face masks from Feeling Beautiful. No matter how you’re feeling, there’s an option, like Avocado/Oatmeal Clay, Cucumber Peel-Off, Charcoal and Black Sugar, and Foaming Apple Cider Vinegar.

Since you’re having a girls night, it’s #TimeforTMI. Two things: 1. The DivaCup is a reusable, bell-shaped menstrual cup that is worn internally, collecting rather than absorbing menstrual flow and offering women more convenience, confidence and flexibility. 2. Yeast infections. Gross, but they can be a part of life. More than half – 53% – of young women say they don’t know how to deal with a yeast infection and two out of three women (66%) don’t know it can be cured with an over-the-counter treatment. Monistat Complete Care Instant Itch Relief Cream is prescription strength without the prescription, so it can start curing on contact.

Thursday: In the immortal words of Vandy Van driver Gabe, “To the bars!” Whether you’re headed to Demonbreun, downtown, or just to your favorite frat, mix up your beauty routine with some new products. You might remember the days of Juicy Couture track suits, but the brand has so much more to offer, like their new perfume, I <3 Juicy Couture. With notes of sparkling mandarin, jasmine and patchouli, this fragrance is a fun change for your Thursday.

Your makeup is another fun way to play around on a Thursday night. Try some new products without breaking the bank (S/O to the CVS on 21ststAvenue where you can pick this stuff up). Rimmel offers innovative must-have products that uniquely deliver eclectic beauty looks, from great lashes with their 24HR Supercurl Mascara to black, blue, or white Colour Precise Eyeliner, to the Only 1 Lipstick (which is actually available in twelve shades).

Friday: You’re done with class and it’s the weekend! No matter where you’re going out tonight, you have to stay safe. Kind of like a Life Alert for collegiettes, the WearSafe Tag instantly connects you to the people who know and love you the most, giving them both your location and valuable context about what’s happening through a continuous audio stream. With a private group chat, the people in your network can also communicate with each other to quickly decide how to get you the right help, right away. Feel safer around a creepy frat boy, weirdo in a bar, or stranger on Demonbreun with this safety device. Since Wearsafe’s personal safety button helps keep you safe on all of your adventures, now they want to cross the biggest one off your bucket list. Tell them what you’ve always wanted to do and Wearsafe will make it happen! One lucky winner and a friend will receive an all-expenses paid adventure of a lifetime. Enter to win at wearsafe.com/adventure.

Saturday: Saturday is Gameday! Flying Colors designs feminine, fashionable, flirty and fun clothing for fashion forward women who want to make a statement and support their college and love of collegiate spirit. You can find the perfect black dress to wear with your cowboy boots on Gameday.

Sunday: It always seems like every club I’m in has a meeting on Sundays. From GBMs to recruitment meetings, I’m always running from one thing to another. A good bra, like the Maidenform Love the Lift bra, will give you the support you need to get through everything.
