If you’re a food or family lover then this is one holiday that you can truly appreciate! It’s a wonderful thing to be in the presence of wonderful cuisine and the people you love most.

1. Brace Yourself for the Conversations: It seems that Thanksgiving is the primetime for a long and intense Q & A session with your family. There’s the series of questions about school, the questions about your love life (or lack thereof), and the miscellaneous questions—which may or may not include inquiries about things you’ve posted on Facebook. Answer the ones you want to and dodge the ones that you don’t!

2. Wear Something Stretchy: If there were ever a time for an elastic waistband, it is now! It creates the illusion that you aren’t as full as you actually are. It also saves time that you would spend trying to wiggle out of your jeans when you’re bloated and tired.

*Spare tip: a nice oversized sweater will lay nicely over the food baby that we tend to pay a little too much attention to post-feast.

3. Don’t Go to Sleep Right after You Eat: It sounds absurd, but actually doing something will help you make the most of this holiday! You don’t have to party all night or do anything bizarre; but catching up with your friends while they’re in town or grabbing a cup of coffee with your cousin should be a must (then you should catch some Zzz’s).

4. Take It All in the Name of Love: We all have those relatives that should immediately enroll in a course on “What Not to Say 101” but it is the holiday season! So instead of letting the comments about your weight hover over you or cause you to pass up seconds, embrace it! In the spirit of Thanksgiving, GIVE a little slack to your dear relatives. Although, in-laws are fair game.

Above everything else, take in and enjoy the holiday! Whether you’re watching the parade, the game, or the crazy people at the Black Friday Sales, do whatever it takes to make you happy…and the people around you, too! It’s a great time to count all of the many great things in your life.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! HCXO!

My name is Nia which means purpose in Swahili and I am currently finding it and trying to live up to it. I'm a senior at Valdosta State University, my major is Communication Disorders--translation: I am an aspiring Speech-Language Pathologist. Nothing makes me happier than the people I love, affection, a good book, a blank journal, and the beach. I'm sure I left a few things off of the list, but you get the point.
