It’s a new year, new semester, and it’s time to get into a new mindset. This is the perfect time to change your personal space around and revamp it to fit who you are now. I am currently in the midst of doing this and trust me; it can get a little pricey depending on your personal taste in décor. Though, as a college student I have found amazing ways to save some coins here and there while also making money.

1. Take it slow

Well, the first thing that you want to remember is to take it slow. There is no race, no specific time frame and no penalties to decorating your space, so take your time. Personally, I started off by purchasing a nice size canvas picture then decided to re-design my entire room. With that picture I could base my color scheme, design theme and everything that I wanted. After that I began to slowly gather items here and there, like a new comforter for my bed, decorative pillows, lamps, organization for makeup, accessories for the space, etc. You never want to just be buying things just to buy them or to just fill a space. You really want to love it all.

2. Sell and donate

Now, what do you do with your old stuff now that you have new stuff? You sell it and donate it! While I’m constantly buying new items, moving things around and figuring out what I want to keep or toss out, I am also picking what I want to sell. I sold my old lamp, room accessories, etc. It is a quick and easy way to make some quick money so you can continue to revamp your space. My favorite app to sell my stuff on is Mercari. It’s quick, easy, and self explanatory. You can also, purchase things on there as well. Also, whatever I cannot sell I automatically take it to my nearest Goodwill.

3. Shopping on a budget

When buying all of these things to create your perfect sanctuary, you also want to be price conscious. Lately, I have been living inside of Tj Maxx, Ross and Target. They have the cutest home décor for the best prices. Don’t forget to check out your local Bealls Outlet, Big Lots, and even Wal-Mart. Target has the cartwheel app that helps you save even more money on top of the already low prices, and Bealls Outlet has 15% off your entire purchase on Mondays and Fridays. There are plenty of ways to buy luxurious looking items while staying on a budget. You just have to look.

4. DIYs

Do-It-Yourself projects are probably the easiest way to revamp your space and fast. If some of your items are still in good shape don’t throw them out, but instead change them up. Like for example, my old pink body length mirror and makeup desk came face to face with some spray paint and now they look completely different. I am also currently in the middle of reupholstering a vanity stool. Super easy!

Regardless of how you want your space to be, remember, slow and steady wins the race. And if you ever need any help or ideas Pinterest will always be your best friend.

HCXO!
