4 Great Mother’s Day DIY Gifts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, and some of us probably haven’t gotten around to shopping yet. We want to find the perfect gift for mom, but we also don’t want to spend ridiculous amounts of money. DIY gifts are great for Mother’s Day because they are creative, less expensive, and original. Here are a few simple, DIY gifts to give your mom this Mother’s Day.

1. Fruit Bouquet

Edible Arrangements are simply adorable, but they can also be pretty pricey and who wants to pay all of that money for fruit on a stick. Instead, you can make your own Edible Arrangements inspired fruit basket. Here are the materials that you will need:

-Fruit of your choice

-Skewers

-Basket or Vase

-Knife for cutting

-Cookie cutter for making shapes

First, clean off all of the fruit properly. Then, you will want to start cutting the fruit into the sizes that you want. Use the cookie cutter on fruits such as watermelon, cantaloupe, or pineapples to create shapes, preferably floral shapes. Next, place the fruit onto the skewers and place them in a basket or vase. Arrange them however you would like.

2. Mason Jar Candles

If your mother loves candles, then she will enjoy this DIY gift. Take a plain mason jar, and transform it into a lovely candle. You will need:

-A mason jar of any size

-Small candles

-Ribbon

-Beads(color of your choice)

First, take the mason jar, and fill it up, halfway with the beads. Then, take the candle and place it inside the mason jar on top of the beads. Decorate the outside of the mason jar by tying a ribbon around the rim. You could also paint the outside of the jar or write a sweet message on the lid of the mason jar.

3. Coffee Mugs

This DIY gift is for all of the moms who are major coffee lovers! This project is super easy. Here are the materials you will need:

-A blank/plain coffee mug

-Paint markers/pens

This project is pretty self explanatory. Just take the paint pen and decorate the mug however you would like. Make sure that the paint pens and mugs are dishwasher safe.

4. Scrapbook

Scrapbooking never gets old. It’s creative and timeless. You will need:

-A scrapbook

-Photos of your mom and family members

-Stickers

-Markers, glitter, and other art supplies

-Glue

-Scissors

-Scrapbooking paper

First, organize all of your supplies and figure out the order and theme of your scrapbook. Next, take the photos and glue them on the scrapbooking paper. You can also use stickers, markers and glitter to decorate your scrapbook as well. Once you have the scrapbooking paper decorated start to place them inside of your scrapbook.

With gifts like these, your mom will be sure to cherish them. She will enjoy them even more, because you added your own personal touch by creating them yourself. These gifts are great for aunts, grandmothers, sisters, cousins, or any woman out there who is an amazing mom! Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
