My Life is GrUV: A Night on the Town

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

It’s the end of the semester, which means it’s time to celebrate. What do UVMers do around here for fun? If you’re looking for a good time, check out Burlington’s bustlin’ bar scene. Whether you just want to have some casual drinks with friends, or dance the night away, there’s a bar for everyone. So here is what some students had to say about the most popular spots in town:

Nectar’s

“Known as the home to jam band Phish, this place attracts good music occasionally and Burlington’s weirdos frequently”

“90’s night and retronome, nuff said”

“Went to reggae night a few Sundays ago and there were some BTV randos, but still super fun!”

Red Square

“On the pricier side, but great DJs and the patios are fun during summer.”

“Blue Room!”

“Can’t beat drinking outside during the summer. A little more expensive, but worth it if you’re looking to dance in the awesome Blue Room. Definitely beats Sputies”

Ales

“Not the greatest service (or lighting), but always a 100% chance of finding solid masses of UVM students getting rowdy and playing mediocre music on the jukebox. Dollar PBRs on Thursdays”

“Best bar in Burlington. Don’t listen to anyone who says otherwise. Great atmosphere, usually much less of a line than other lame bars in town. $1 PBRs on Thursdays are a godsend for broke college students. Usually start our night off here and then migrate to Redsquare or RiRas to dance once we have a nice drunk on”

Sputies

“Into the bowels of hell”

“Dungeon-like”

“Only if I’m desperate”

“If you want a stranger to grind up on you this is the best place to be”

“Back bar or bust”

“Dance floor make out”

“Usually the last stop of the night, but only if I won’t remember it in the morning”

Drink

“Fun drink specials every night of the week (with $4 mojitos on Wednesdays being the local favorite) and on Sunday and Monday nights they run all of their specials at once!”

“Real expensive, but real good drinks, weird environment though”

Ake’s

“The bar most likely blasting country jams off of the jukebox every night of the week. Twisted Tea specials on Tuesdays. Only bar with Buck Hunt!”

“It’s always full of bros and there’s a line there starting earlier than 10pm that moves slower than molasses. Darts are fun if you’re good, but don’t try using the pool table, because the guy who is always on deck is better than you, I promise”

“Smallest, creepiest and dirtiest bathroom in Burlington”

“Only fun in the summer”

Half Lounge

“The Velvet Glove – all it takes is one to get you drunk!”

“Too small, I feel claustrophobic”

Three Needs

“Hipster central, but awesome space and there’s foosball!”

“I honestly only ever go there for Duff hour, which is every weekday at 4pm they tap a nice keg (usually Otter Creek or another local microbrew) and the beers are $1 until the keg runs out. Sometimes the keg can last an hour, or sometimes it won’t last 20 minutes”
