Kiss & Tell: Flirting With TAs: How Far is Too Far?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

During the first week of classes your teacher introduces you to your new TAs (teaching assistants). A hot guy stands up and you immediately begin to crush on him. Weeks later you meet up with him at a party and think, “Should I go for it?” Chances are you both don’t realize he’s your TA. You guys end up hooking up and you try to add him on Facebook. (Side note: when I asked one of my TAs they said they aren’t allowed to accept request from their students. So don’t be upset).

If you are trying to hook up with a TA to help boost your grade, be advised that this is against school policy. Now the real question is, how much flirting is too much? It is generally wise to avoid trying to have a relationship with your TA. Most schools have rules against such relationships. If you really want to be with this guy then you will need to wait until he isn’t your TA to avoid any accusations of favoritism.

Yes, once and a while a TA will hook up with one of his students—and you will hear about it. To avoid the trouble, I would suggest DO NOT go for it. Most students, however, do not listen to this advice! Just remember it is quite possibly against your school’s policy, so it would be in your best interest to not do too much bragging to friends.

All in all, if you’re convinced that this TA is your one and only soul mate, wait it out. The trouble is just not worth the risk—and in one semester, you’ll be free to be together!
