How To Save Your Skin During the Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Winter weather can definitely take a toll on your skin. I know this struggle better than anyone. To quote the Gilmore Girls revival, “it’s like winter is Hitler and my skin is Poland.” Fortunately, there are many products out there to survive the harsh, cold months.

1.     Moisturizer

You’ve all heard this one. Just do it. Use a moisturizer morning and night. Keep one by your bed so that when you roll in from a long night out you have no excuses.

2.     Lip balm

Dry lips are just painful. Keep lip balm everywhere — your bag, your coat pocket, your car, your boyfriend’s car (he doesn’t want to deal with your crusty lips, either), and wherever else you may find yourself dry-lipped. You can thank me later.

3.     Exfoliator

If you have uber-dry skin like me, you’l probably want something to keep your skin flakeless. Gently use a facial scrub like this one, and your skin will be nice and smooth again.

4.     Sunscreen

Unfortunately, sunscreen isn’t just for when you’re out tanning on the beach. You need SPF on your face year-round. This is especially true if you like to ski or snowboard — being up on a mountain brings you closer to the sun’s harmful UV rays.

5.     Masks

Sheet masks are a great fix for dry skin. They’re quick and easy, and make you feel like you’re at a spa. I like to use them on airplanes, but if you’re not as bold as me, feel free to use them in the comfort of your own home.
