Bye Bye Bad Hair Days

5 Ways to Spend Less Than 5 Minutes On Your Hair and Still Look Like You Tried
More often than not, doing your hair for class can feel like a lose-lose situation. There are usually two main options: a) roll out of bed and throw your hair into a messy, frizzy bun, or b) cut into your prime beauty sleep time to shower, blow dry and style your hair. You can either be well rested with a poof-ball or exhausted with a fried head of hair.

So what do you do? Well, if you don’t really feel like slaving over your hair, you can at least give the illusion you did…right? The next time you wake up with 15 minutes to get to class, try one of these hairstyles and see if it works for you!

1. The side French braid
Gather a small amount of hair on the side of your head and start to French braid down (if you don’t know how to French braid – no worries, just do a regular one!). Stop when the braid gets to around your ear and then pin it back. It’s a great way to keep flyaways out of your face. And if the rest of your hair is still looking unmanageable, gather it up and put it in a bun. You’ll avoid all the side frizz that comes out of a plain messy bun and instead, rock the look of a sophisticated up-do.

 2. The inside-out ponytail
This will literally take you three seconds, but I promise it looks awesome. Tie your hair into a ponytail, but make sure it isn’t too high. Then separate the hair just above the hair tie into two equal sections and bring your ponytail upwards and through the gap you just created. Voilà!

3. The French twist
Once you hear the word “French” in the title, you know it has to be a good-looking hairstyle. Here’s what you do: Gather your hair high on your head so that it looks like you are about to make a high ponytail. Then twist the ponytail part tightly, bring it down your head, tuck it under, and bobby pin it. Now I know that makes no sense to read, so watch this YouTube video for a more in-depth tutorial (there’s a ton,  – this is just the one that’s easiest for me, but feel free to try more!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDSaxLFT3Uw&feature=related

4. Beach waves
Straightening hair can be frustrating because you have to be meticulous. If you miss even one inch in the back, it can throw your whole look off. However, if you use your flat iron to make loose waves, it doesn’t matter if you miss a few pieces here and there. Just take a strand of hair about an inch thick, bring your flat iron to the top, curl it inwards, and drag it all the way down. The less tightly you wrap the hair, the looser the waves. The best part? It takes half the time of regular straightening.

5. Accessories
No, I’m not talking about the fuzzy scrunchies and glittery headbands you used to wear in the ‘90s. I mean cute looking clips that can spice up even the dullest of ‘dos. Take a classy barrette, for example. Even if you just end up putting your hair in a low bun, you can fasten the barrette on top and give yourself a touch of elegance. If you have your hair half-up, half-down, stick a little flower pin in the back to look cute and girly. Or add an accessory onto any of the styles I’ve just listed above. Be creative – the opportunities are endless!

If you’ve caught the hair craze, and want more instructions, search any hairstyle on YouTube and a tutorial will pop up. Once you get good at these styles, you’ll be able to make yourself look like a diva in less than five minutes. So stop despairing and enjoy your beauty sleep AND your pretty hair.
