A Bucket List for University of Utah Seniors

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

When I was a senior in high school, the advice that I was given by every adult in my life was, “enjoy the next four years, they will go by so quickly”. I took that advice into account, but I never realized how true that sentiment would be. I cannot believe that I am in my final semester of my senior year here at the University of Utah. These have, without a doubt, been the best years of my life and I never want them to end. Unfortunately, the year is coming to a close, and, like many out-of-state students, I plan on moving out of Utah at the end of my college career. Naturally, I have so many things that I haven’t done in Utah that I need to squeeze in within the next 100 days! Here is an attainable list of Utah activities for seniors that we all need to do before we graduate.

1.  Explore Moab

One of Utah’s finest places, in my humble opinion, is the beautiful Moab. Taking a weekend to go camping with friends or sorority sisters would be the perfect Salt Lake weekend getaway while being surrounded by all that nature can offer. Not to mention camping is a MUST while living in Utah. I never went camping growing up, but it is something that I needed to check off my bucket list.

2.  Eat/Drink at The Rest

One of my favorite spots in all of Salt Lake City is the “speak-easy” under the downtown bar, Bodega. Bodega has an upstairs bar (that has $2 tequila shots, by the way), but if you ask the hostess if you “can go down and see The Rest”, then she will bring you down to the most gorgeous underground lair with fine dining and artisan drinks. There is limited availability every night at The Rest, so make sure you either make a reservation ahead of time or go on a weekday.

3.  Enjoy a Train Burger at the Dairy Keen

Heber, Utah is home to the world famous Dairy Keen. It’s a local restaurant that serves killer shakes, burgers and other delightful treats. Heber is a bit of a drive, but it is totally worth the trip once you get your hands on those fries and secret sauce. Incidentally, the Dairy Keen is actually owned by my fiancés family, so I go there often, which would explain my Freshman 15.

4.  Spend a Day in the New Law Building

We are so lucky to have a beautiful library on campus to study in. However, if you are feeling tired of being in the same environment while trying to get work done, try working in the new law building on campus instead. The brand new building has plenty of quiet areas to study on top of being one of the most technologically advanced buildings in the state of Utah. A break from the norm could also be good if you are trying to break stagnant habits.

5.  Have a Picnic at the Capitol Building

There is nothing like a spring day with blue skies in Utah. Once it begins to warm up, grab a quick and easy lunch (perhaps at Even Stevens), and head up to the Capitol Building with a blanket and spread out on the grass with a friend or a significant other. The building itself is flawless, but you also can’t beat that view.

Utah has so much to offer, I know that I will be devastated when I have to move away. I am so proud to be a Ute and I cant wait to visit in the future and go on even more adventures! What is your favorite Utah adventure spot and why? Leave it in the comments below and it could be featured in another edition of “A Bucket List for University of Utah Seniors”.

I am an acting major who has a soft spot for puppies.  I cry whenever I see Christmas lights or hear Christmas music because the magic of Christmas is just too overwhelming.  I am completely and utterly obsessed with boba, Disneyland, Tom Hardy, and salt n' vinegar chips.  I'm from, like, California, and it's, like, pretty noticeable somehow.  In the future I want to live in a big city and be exactly like my mom because she is perfect in every way.
