USFSP Hosts MTV Girl Code Comedians Tanisha and Esther!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Most everyone has heard of the show Girl Code on MTV where the cast talks about all kind of uncomfortable topics that range from boys, sex, and drinking to dieting, ex-girlfriends, and farting.  So last Monday night everyone crowded around The Reef to see a comedy show performed Tanisha Long and Esther Ku from Girl Code.

Tanisha was very real with us and talked about a lot of topics that I’m sure most girls in the audience could completely relate to. She started off admitting to everyone in the audience that she was a terrible girlfriend. This was nice to hear because everyone is not perfect, not even a celebrity. Tanisha told us that she had some problems in the bedroom and with boys which all goes back to her trust issues that stem from her relationship with her father. At this point in the show we all felt bad for Tanisha and all sympathized with her story. She explained to us her hoes on notice list which has three types of girls that she can’t stand being around her, or most importantly her boyfriend. First off there’s the girl who is blacker than her and overall simply cooler than her.  Like deep down you know that even if you look better than her, she is better in her heart and her soul regardless. Then there is the girl who likes every picture of your boyfriend on Instagram and leaves cute little heart emojis all over his pictures. No further explanation is needed for this one that is just plain wrong. The last girl is any girl that looks like her.  She definitely doesn’t want her boyfriend around anyone who looks like her. Most girls at this point were laughing because they completely understood what she was talking about. She went on to talk about break ups, dating bad guys, and dating white guys. Tanisha Long was fantastic and really funny. I loved how she connected with the audience and was completely real and yet hilariously funny with us.

Esther Ku came out with a fake Chinese accent and started to mess with the people in the audience. She tried setting people up and breaking people up all while keeping the audience bent over in laughter. Esther went on to explain how she can be Asian when it’s convenient for her to be, like when she is being pulled over by a cop. After this she freaked out by the large percentage of students with biology majors at our school and the fact that we had an Asian who was an undecided major.  Throughout her show she always found time to hit on a student sitting the front row that she found really attractive. At one point in the show she brought out her ukulele to play us some tunes that included “My Boyfriend’s Black” and “Fisting the Night Away”.  Tanisha and Esther then played an improv game with us and at that time we learned that we are not very good theater people.
