Weird but Cool Trend of the Week: Jellies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFCA chapter.

I am the only person I know who wears jelly shoes, therfore, I feel obligated to defend them and to prove that they are, in fact, a trend worth trying out. They are kind of like sneakers in the sense that they are comfortable and you can wear them in a relatively wide array of temperatures. If you’re going to the beach or its just a really hot day, you can wear them! Slightly chilly outside? Wear them with socks! Really cold outside? Fuzzy socks! To prove my point, I wore my jellies every day for a week (switching between my black and clear pair) and was perfectly comfortable and perfectly suited for the bipolar San Francisco weather all day long! If you’re like me and don’t really care for flip flops, they’re a perfect substitute, and are surprisingly versatile. So without further ado, here are my seven ways to wear jellies:

Day 1: On Monday I paired my jellies with tights and a black skirt. This is a cute, put-together look, and it actually somewhat disguises the fact that my shoes are made of rubbery plastic!

Day 2: I wanted to brighten up my Tuesday, so I decided to go for a fun, quirky look by pairing my clear jellies with my salmon colored pug socks! An unlikely but original combination.

Day 3: Since I spend a majority of my life in Lulu Lemon leggings and will probably die in them and then be buried in them, the jellies-with-leggings look is my favorite! Wednesday was a good, comfortable day.

Day 4: On Thursday I realized that I still hadn’t tried out my new ruffled socks from American Apparel, soooo obviously I had to wear them with my jellies. I think it was a success.

Day 5: Friday was a typical extremely cold and foggy San Francisco day, so I decided to be a little crazy and wear my jellies with fuzzy socks! I’ve seen people wear them with Vans, and that’s seen as socially acceptable, so why not pair them with jellies? I mean, as long as they’re not too fuzzy its okay, right?

Day 6: In case you hadn’t figured it out yet, I am a huge fan of socks, especially ones that are brightly colored. When I wore these on Saturday, some random guy at the Muni stop said “Nice socks”, so I guess they really do catch peoples attention! The fact that the shoes are completely see-through probably helps!

Day 7: On Sunday morning I wore my clear jellies, which showed off my bright orange nailpolish nicely. Girls, if you want to show off your $20+ pedicure, this is the best way to do it!
