Recipe of the Week: Easy Apple Crisp

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Collegiettes™, fall has officially arrived!

There have been a few nice days lately that have really encompassed the crisp feeling of autumn on campus. So, why not add the aroma of autumn to your kitchen with a freshly made apple crisp?  Don’t be nervous if you are not much a baker! When I made this recipe for the first time, it came out delicious, and was a complete hit with my roommates. You don’t have to be America’s Next Great Baker, just follow these simple instructions to master this dessert.

Ingredients:

  • About 5 or 6 medium Granny Smith and/or Golden Delicious apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • ¾  teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼  teaspoon salt

  • ½  cup packed light brown sugar

  • ½  cup quick oats

  • ⅓  cup all-purpose flour

  • 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter

  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice

  1. Heat oven to 375ºF and coat an 8″x 8″ pan with butter.

  2. Combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and ⅛ teaspoon salt in bowl.  Stir until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and transfer to 8″x 8″ pan.

  1. In the same bowl (less mess!) mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and remaining ⅛ teaspoon salt.

  2. Cut the 4 tablespoons of cold butter into pieces, and massage into the dry mixture with hands until combined. Sprinkle over apples.

  3. Bake for 45 minutes.  Let cool for 20 – 30 minutes before serving. Best served warm.

We hope you enjoy this recipe, collegiettes™! Check out some pumpkin recipes to keep your kitchen smelling sweet.
