Kelsey Howard: Meet A Her Campus Member

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

What’s your name? “Kelsey Kay Howard. My middle name is named after my Aunt Cindy who died at 16 of Leukemia.”

Where are you originally from? “I was born on Ohio, but moved to Florida when I was one. I have lived in the same house in Venice, Florida since I was three so I feel like I was born and raised here.”

What made you choose USF? “When I took a campus tour I felt right at home. USF is so welcoming and very diverse. I love meeting new people so the diversity and high standard academics really helped me make the decision.”

What are you majoring in? Do you have a minor? “I am majoring in mass communications with a concentration in magazine. I don’t have a minor right now, but I am interested in either psychology or sociology.

What do you plan on doing with your degree? “My dream job would be to eventually be the editor-in-chief of a large magazine, preferably Cosmopolitan (big dream, I know!). For now I plan on writing for a magazine that focuses either on women or elementary education.’

Do you see graduate school in the future? “Yes! As long as I can afford it, I have all intentions of graduate school.”

What advice would you give to incoming college students? “Don’t be weary of student loans if you NEED them. They will be the best investment you ever make.”

What quote do you live by? “‘When real people fall down in life they get right back up and keep walking.’ -Carrie Bradshaw.”

What are your hobbies? “I love writing and reading. I also really like spinning!”

Do you have any pet peeves? “The only pet peeve I have is when people are close-minded. I am very open-minded and accepting so I dislike when people make assumptions and decisions about other people before meeting them.”
