Getting Back On The Grind After Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

Say goodbye to the beaches, parties, relaxation and stress-free time and prepare to say hello to classrooms, homework, projects and stress.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Spring Break is officially over. That means waking up early, dealing with the Hunger Games of finding parking and hitting the books. The first week back is ALWAYS the hardest. I can barely drag myself out of bed long enough to make a half decent effort on my looks.

There are some ways you could make this dreaded week a bit easier. Here are some tips to get back to the grind after the week-long break.

  1. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

You already have to deal with Spring Break being over; do you really want to face that fact exhausted because you didn’t get enough sleep? Plan ahead so that you can be finished with whatever you need to do and be in bed at a reasonable time. Being rested means you will be ready to take on the week. If you can’t get to bed at a good time for whatever reason, make sure to fit in a good nap either before or in between classes.

  1. Get Organized

Being a cluttered mess when you get back to school is the absolute worst. Make sure your stuff is neat and orderly so that you can access whatever you need quickly and easily. Grab a planner if you need to. Do whatever you have to do to stay organized and ahead of the game.

  1. Stay Hydrated and Healthy

Let’s face it, when it comes to Spring Break, the diet goes flying out the window. We binge on the most delicious, unhealthiest foods we can find and our blood gets replaced with all kinds of alcohol. Things like “dieting” and “exercise” become so foreign to us. Now it’s the first week back and we are feeling the effects of our eating and drinking. Make sure you get back to properly hydrating with water and eating healthy. Get back into treating your body right and your week will be just fine.

  1. Get Back into a Routine

We are creatures of habit. Once we form a routine, we barely break it. Sit down to study at the same time every day. Do homework in the same environment. Exercise every day at the same time. Setting a routine — and sticking to it — will make the week easier. You will be so used to your routine you won’t even think twice before doing it.

  1. Set Goals and To-Do Lists

If you are anything like me, physically writing what you have to do down in a list makes it easier to complete. I can’t explain it but if I write a task or goal down on a piece of paper where I can look at it all the time, it makes the task or goal important and I am much more likely to complete it. And, once you mark down that you completed the goal or task, it’ll feel much more satisfying.

  1. Have a Relaxing Day Before School

Whatever you do, make sure your last day before you get back to school is a relaxing one. Head on down to a spa. Have a bubble bath with a nice glass of your favorite drink. Binge watch Netflix while eating a tasty treat. Do whatever puts you in a relaxing mood so you will be nice and refreshed for that dreaded week.

I am a junior at the University of South Florida. I am specializing in Public Relations while pursuing certificates in Business and Visualization & Design. I hope to one day combine all of these and pursue law in the entertainment and even branch out to other passions in family law. While I am studying to achieve these dreams, I have furthered my collection of coffee cups and obsession with caffeine. I currently work as a barista and love to whip up new ideas, whether it be actual coffee creations or branding ideas. My other hobbies include enjoying short walks to the movies and my computer. This is usually to catch up on the latest and greatest shows. If it's not film, it is music. I love the thrill of listening to live music of my favorite and new bands. These inspire me to discover my individuality and brand, while challenging myself to help others find theirs.
