Five Places in Río Piedras Good for a First Date

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPR chapter.

February is here! With Valentine’s day just around the corner and the traumatic experience of both Hurricanes that devastated our island, it is time to ask your crush out! Because, believe me, if you survived through both Irma and María, you can most certainly gather up the courage you need to ask that special someone out.

So if you do decide to tirarte de pecho and have no idea where to take your date, do not worry! We’ve got you covered.

1. Museo de Historia, Antropología y Arte

Budget: No Cost

Opens: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm;

              Wednesday: 9:00am to 8:30pm; Domingo: 1:30am to 4:30pm

If you didn’t know by now or forgot, our campus has a wonderful Museum that has no entrance fee! In there you can see an Egyptian exhibit that has its very own mummy and also, one of the most important works of art of our country: El Velorio by Francisco Oller. Plus, every semester the art gallery hosts a new exhibition! There will be no excuse to not talk because the museum offers a lot of interesting conversational topics! If you and your date are into art, history and are on a low budget, this is the place for you.

2. Café Paraíso

Budget: $3.00-$13. 00

Opens: Monday to Friday: 9:00 am- 5:00 pm

A little far from Campus, the local coffee shop and restaurant, Café Paraíso, offers a very rustic and relaxing ambiance. Good for long conversations over breakfast or lunch, or maybe just a good warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate! Especially great for those rainy days because it is a very warm place to be in and share with that special someone.

Recommendation: For those who love Nutella, Café Paraíso offers a hot chocolate with Nutella that is to die for!

3. Galería Francisco Oller

Budget:  No Cost

Opens: 9:00 am

In a corner of the building LPM in the Humanities Faculty, you will find the art gallery, Francisco Oller. The art gallery’s exhibits change with each semester and in this current one, it is holding on exhibit the seventy-two year anniversary of Teatro Rodante of our University, which offers great conversational topics! There is no entrance fee to be paid and although the Gallery is compact and small, it is a good place to start off a date and then, maybe head over to Los Veggies de Huma for lunch.

4.  Los Monkeys P.R.

Budget: $7.00- $15. 00

Opens: Monday- Friday: 11:00 am- 9:00 pm, Saturdays: 12:00 pm- 6:00 pm

If you are in the mood for good burgers, alternative music, and a very chill atmosphere, Los Monkeys is the place to be! Whether you would like to ask your crush out for lunch or dinner, this place offers a large selection of burgers, tacos, and sandwiches with a big side of fries.  The customer service is excellent and you will feel very comfortable in their trendy decorations that are Tumblr worthy. And I don’t know about you guys, but great music and great food PLUS that special someone sounds like the perfect scenario for me. Like my grandma would say: “Barriga llena, corazón contento”.

5. Picnic in front of La Torre

Budget: Minimum

Now, if you both are in the mood for something more out of the ordinary and romantic, a nice picnic in the grounds that are in front of La Torre is a great idea! You can both bring snacks, music and whatever activity you might want to do or not to do. Sometimes just spending time together and talking is a great way to start. This is a fun date idea to just lay back and relax, enjoy the view and the company!

With these many options and possibilities, there is no excuse for anyone to not ask that special someone out this February!

And if you are not interested in anyone, you can always ask yourself out or go with friends to all these wonderful places to discover and make great memories.
