It has been one week since Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States of America. And like many have predicted, it was a whirlwind of a week. From arguing over the size of the inauguration crowd, the Women’s March, saying goodbye to Obama and numerous executive orders, there is a lot to unpack and discuss. Some of it have a right to be discussed, and some features are being given too much attention in lieu of other issues.

Unless you have been living under a rock or have no part of social media, you are pretty up-to-date on what President Trump has done within the last week. But in case you are confused or unaware of some of his orders that have taken place, here is a recap and explanation of it all.

Immigration: This has been talked about a lot over the past weekend. With Trump giving the go-ahead to build the wall, and his newest executive order banning people from certain regions of the world from entering the U.S., it’s no surprise that this is headline news. Over the weekend there were numerous protests at airports around the nation, protesting the “Muslim Ban” with posters saying things like “No Ban, No Wall.” And while in his order, it is not actually called a Muslim ban, President Trump has banned all refugees from entering the country for 120 days, along with anyone from seven different countries. This included green-card holders and those who already have visas for the U.S. Now, the Trump Administration is saying that they will look at green-card holders as a case by case scenario, most were detained at airports or turned away from boarding their planes. The seven countries that now have a 90 day ban are Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Syria, Libya, Sudan and Yemen. A federal judge on Saturday was able to ban the deportation of those who are being detained, but the legalities behind the order are still murky.

Abortion and Global Health: Trump has implemented the “global gag rule” which cuts international funding of clinics that provide abortions or discuss abortions with patients. He has also promised to defund Planned Parenthood, which many Republicans in the Senate have also publicly supported. Reports have stated that The Netherlands is creating a fund for these clinics and services that will replace funding from the U.S.

Trade: President Trump has pulled out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which is a free trade deal that strengthened trade deals with 12 Pacific countries. This was a campaign promise by President Trump, and one that he hopes will bring jobs back to the U.S. and put America first.

These are just a few of the orders and actions Trump has taken since his inauguration, but the list grows. He is working on repealing the ACA, gave the green light for the Keystone and Dakota Access Pipeline, and put a hiring freeze in Government, and this is only the beginning. Trump is keeping many of his campaign promises, but not without a fight. Whether he can continue to keep these promises, only time will tell. But we are already seeing the consequences to many of his actions.
