Maine Fashion Must-Have: Leather (or Faux Leather) Boots

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

Maine seasons tend to get messy which means spending hundreds of dollars on a pair of ballet flats or wedges is not a sensible decision for a UMaine student. However, when going out on the weekends a UMaine collegietteä needs to think fashionable, sensible and warm. When it comes to realistic shoes one would consider L.L.Bean boots, Hunters or a pair of cheap shoes that you can afford to ruin. However, with leather boots becoming more common they are simultaneously becoming more inexpensive.

Charlotte Russe, Michael Kors, Chinese Laundry and Steve Madden have begun selling reasonably priced leather-like boots that combine style and sensibility. Whether it’s a camel color pair that compliments a majority of your outfits or a deep black, most designers and retailers sell multiples styles and colors these days.

The plus-side to buying inexpensive boots is that if they do get scratched, wet or wrecked due to inconvenient Orono rain/snow storms, you will be less attached and get less upset. However, a $30 pair of boots will not hold up as well as a pair that you splurge on do. FRYE boots have become increasingly popular in the past few seasons (as well as in the 1970’s) and with over fifteen styles of boots ranging from cowgirl to riding, there is certainly a pair of FRYE boots out their for every sense of style.

Having both a pair of genuine FRYE boots and a pair of faux leather boots I have come to understand the upside of both pairs. I don’t mind getting my faux leather boots snowy or muddy for I know that it will wipe off, yet my FRYE boots seem to look cooler every time they get a scuff mark.

Regardless of where you get your boots, you will find that once you get them you don’t see the logic in wearing anything else.
