We all need a little encouragement. We did in the past, we do now and we even will in the future — or at least I know I have. So here is a letter to my future self that may need it, and you too.

Dear Future Self,

Life may be rough right now, or it could be going absolutely fantastic, but either way — you are doing amazing. You are waking up everyday, putting your feet on the ground and making a difference. Whether you are still in school, in your career or still trying to figure out where you are going in life, that is okay.

No one has this whole “life” thing figured out anyway — so do not stress.

But wherever you are in life, and whatever you are doing, make sure it is done wholly. Be strong, be brave, be bold, be larger than life, work hard, keep aiming high and just do it. One day you will appreciate the long nights spent crouched over open textbooks with coffee, or the countless hours sitting in class struggling to comprehend the lesson and the tears and the frustration your job may bring, but it will still be worth it because you worked hard to get here.

But along the way, do not forget the simple things in life…

Talk to your parents, go outside, take a personal day, indulge in sweets, get your hair done, take a hike, read that book you’ve been telling yourself you’ll “eventually get to,” paint, go to the gym, but most important.. relax.

Take a breather and remember you are only human. You will make mistakes along the way. You may fail a test or lose that promotion, but it is not the end of the world. Things happen and life gets hard, but it is only more of a reason to work harder.

Surround yourself with good people who will only lift you up and send encouragement your way during rough times. It will make all the difference.

And don’t forget — you’re exactly where you are supposed to be, doing exactly what you should be doing.

Keep going.
